the interview show: Justin BUA

Justin BUA is the #1 living selling artist amongst college students around the world. His art, like his most famous poster, “the DJ” (above), hangs in as many dorm rooms as that Audry Hepburn portrait or that Bob Marley photo.

Collector’s of his art also include Bill Clinton, Robert De Niro, Will Smith, Alicia Silverstone, Christina Ricci, Mark Wahlberg, Whoopi Goldberg, and many more in the music and movie communities.

He was in Toronto for his first Canadian exhibition at the LISS Gallery on Nov. 21st and we caught up with him for a chat. If you are in TO, head to the LISS, if you are everywhere else, check out his work here.

The Man in The Mirror

My landlord has this religious magazine that is sent to our house.  There was a “very informative” article on Goths and Emos and how they are the product of the devil etc.  I think they’re just a lil’ misunderstood and searching for meaning in this world.

If you see a goth or emo, I think you should give them a hug.  They are just a mirrored reflection of our society.

The 2004 Michael Jackson doc by that holier than thou Bashir dude was on the tellie last night.  It was so gosh darn sad.  I was really struck by a part in it where Michael talks about how messed up the world is now and how we all need more affection and love and how everything is out of wack with kids on their computers and parents at work all day.  I think he’s right.  If there’s one thing those Columbine kids needed it was love.

Pictureplane has a new album, Dark Rift coming out in a few weeks.  Very nice sampling of some Fletwood Mac on this lil’ ditty. I think Fleetwood Mac might actually be one of the seven wonders.

ok, im going to go shave my head right now.

Goodbye Michael

I haven’t got much work done with Michael’s memorial going on. What did you think?

This is a little twisted (like Michael’s life) but I was waiting for him to pop out of the coffin and yell, “Surprise bitches! It’s me I’m back! I knew y’all still loved me.” Talk about the best comeback ever…. And it would be perfect timing with his concerts set to start in a week.

I felt like it was all pretty somber, sad stuff. Couldn’t it have been held at an outdoor venue? I don’t know why Kobe Bryant had to be a part of it as well?

Personally, I find caskets to be really creepy and it reminded me how I want to be cremated.

And what was with the E! entertainment commentators speaking about it afterwards? I’m not sure what the other networks did but I found it a little weird hearing from the same dbags that took such pleasure in mocking him, and talk about whether it was right to have his daughter, Paris, speak or not. That’s where I turned that fucker off. Dude is dead, memorial is over. Now you flip to an episode of Cheers that is already underway.

But on a serious note, hearing his daughter speak and his family was some powerful stuff and definitely helped to humanize Michael in a way that Kobe Bryant and Queen Latifah didn’t (for me at least).

This song has come to me. I don’t know why, I’m notorious for misreading things and it probably is about doing too much blow and eating Mars bars, but it somehow spoke to me and my mixed up lil mind.

June 25th 2009

I don’t normally get all emo but I was surprisingly pretty messed up yesterday.

I think I was more saddened than shocked at the news. Who really pictured MJ living to be 60? He was someone that attempted to never grow up and literally gave everything he had to his fans.

I wrote a post on Michael back in March and things sounded pretty terrible for him. He was auctioning off the entire contents of his Neverland estate (at his lowest point of popularity), sicked by the place and what it had come to be while supposedly fighting off a form of flesh eating disease caused by his ongoing surgeries.

I think this is more than just a loss of a man, but also for the artistic spirit that he embodied. This is a loss for anyone that has ever strove for perfection and hurt yourself in the process, giving a part of you away with it. Michael was someone with adoring fans who he loved more than anything.

The only consolation I find is that I don’t think he was a happy man and this is perhaps how it was meant to be.

I didn’t know if listening to his music would be the right thing yesterday but I couldn’t find anything else that suited being played and hearing his spirit alive in the way it is in his music is a beautiful thing. This is what he would of wanted and is how he would of wanted to be remembered.

Ive spent more years than id like to admit djing and playing music for people and can probably say Michael was the single artist whose music I’ve played the most. I have seen the joy his music brings to people firsthand and am sure the same things happens in cities around the world. I believe that this contribution is immeasurable and I think that is what made me so sad. He died trying to attempt the brave feat of putting on one last show for his fans.

Vancouve DJ, U-Tern did a mix of straight Prince material back in 07. It’s pretty much the best thing ever.

Sad Sad Sad

As well as battling an MSRA type, flesh eating super bug which has apparently spread from his nose to the rest of his body following a surgery, Michael Jackson is auctioning off the contents of his Neverland Ranch.

After his 2005 acquittal, the King of Pop said that he never wanted to return to the ranch stating that his home had been violated during the  police search of the premise. 1,500 lots of material is to be auction off in L.A. and Kildare, Ireland.  It took a team of 30 people 90 days to move and label the contents of the house and 2,800 acre lot.

Within the items are a collection of five crystal gloves seen in Jackson’s short film, Ghosts, the jacket Jackson wore on the Dangerous tour and the star’s MTV Moon Man award amongst other furniture, paintings, costumes and personal memorabilia.

MJ is apparently quite the vid fanatic.  He is selling off hundreds of arcade cabinets that collectively read as a chronology on gaming.  The list is quite impressive. Bidding on items starts at $20 for a ceramic mug and goes up to $20,000 for the gates to the ranch which have the Jackson family crest on them.

Jackson is said to regard the sale as cathartic, closing a chapter in his life and moving on.

One item he is not putting up for sale is his red jacket from the Thriller video.

View the entire list here.

Winnie wishes Michael a speedy recovery and to rake in some serious bucks from the auction.  Hopefully this way he can pay off all those pesky lawyers.  Purging oneself of your belongings is a good thing and is going to be a huge trend in 2k9.

In other MJ news, it is rumored he’s planning a string of comeback concerts in London starting in July. Fuck yes.

Happy M.F. Halloween

Booohahahahahahahahahahaha, its my favourite day of the year!!!!!!!!

Today is the day you get to be the slutty nurse, perverted pirate, horny maid, naughty cop / angel / nun / naked halloween pumpkin ass / general pervert you’ve always wanted to be but were too afraid of being!!!!!

I’ve drank twenty cups of coffee and im soo excited that I might soil myself.

How are you?

I think we should start an online petition right here and now to make halloween or at least the day after or even both a day off.

NO matter what Halloween party you go to, chances are you will hear MJ’s Thriller, maybe even more than once.

There’s something about the moment you hear the opening synth notes where all of the sudden it feels worth it that you dropped $60 bones for that pink ladies one piece at AA which somehow completes your porky pig costume.

Thriller has aged to perfection, arguably becoming even scarier now with thoughts of Michael Jackson giving out sweeties dressed up as Santa Claus or even worse, with no costume at all (I love you Michael, there’s nothing wrong with being a freak)

Be safe, don’t go chasing your little brother around with a roman candle, those things can backfire!!!!!

Villains - Thrilla (Thriller remix)

Hot City Bmore - Thriller (punk rock 96k version, don’t worry no one will notice.  If anyone gives you a funny look, act like someone just farted)

Michael Jackson - Thriller (Bird Peterson Extended Remix)

Death Cab For Cutie - Thriller (Michael Jackson)
