ΔDΔM KΔDMON

ADAM KADMON is a dance-punk/noise trio from Vancouver or as it’s described on their facebook “2 polite quiet asians and one loud outgoing white boy”.
Their music is definitely not for the faint at heart. A key feature is definitely the hypnotic catchy bass lines and 90′s feel. Even though KADMON is fairly new to the scene both of the shows they’ve played have been packed full. It probably has something to do with the fact that even though there is an obvious comparison to DFA 1979 they’re doing something different from a lot of the other bands in Vancouver. Not to mention they cover songs like Alice Deejays ‘Better off alone’! Oh and the lead singer is kind of a babe. Make sure to keep an eye out for their next show as I’m sure they will only get bigger and better.

Cyclist

Meet Cyclist, a DJ / Electronic artists that had recently migrated from Winnipeg to Vancouver. Now picture yourself in a rave that’s happening in an empty subway tunnel in an early 80’s flashback, that should be about the right spot. This man has got a sonic identity that’s all own, blending the pulse of the club with swooping melodramatic atmospheres.

Humans @ The Biltmore

Opening the show was Blood Diamonds and his reputation, as usual, preceded him. With the kids from Oh No! Yoko backing him up it was a perfect tease for our boys Peter and Robbie.
HUMANS have always been a Winnie favorite and all I can say about their live show is money well spent. Peter and Robbie have an infectious chemistry on stage that gets the audience frantically involved. Although I was excited to hear some of the new material for their next record, I can’t seem to stop enjoying Avec Mes Mecs; still.
Make sure you drop a line with the boys next time you’re out, they’re total sweethearts. Enjoy the single from their last record, “Avec Mes Mecs“, and “Dreams” from our Blood Diamonds.

Jonny Dylan Hughes – We’re Going to Make It

When I first saw Jonny Dylan Hughes, it was several years ago back in the suburban sprawl of Langley. Hughes became known as the guy who brought his laptop to Screamo band shows and performed opening sets of unabashed indie-pop back before The Postal Service really even set sail. He’s come a long way since those days, and his latest release “We’re Going to Make It” is all the proof we need.
Between the perky, 8-bit melodies, and dreamlike atmospheres there is a clear intention to this record. Hughes’ blurred and fizzled out vocals are concise and point straight to the heart on his sleeve. Lyrics that would often be off-the-charts on the cheese scale, come off completely genuine with JDH’s ethereal and melancholy delivery. “We’re Going to Make It” is an ideal split fit for an ecstatic moment at an electro dance party, or a thoughtful walk alone with headphones.
You can stream the full album on Jonny’s Bandcamp.
You can buy your very own download to cherish forever for $10.
In a brief correspondence I had with Hughes recently, I’m told he is currently on a break from live performance. He’s working on his design company http://hughesdesign.co and spending time with his wife and toddler son. We can expect a release from Hughes’ other project, Branches, in the near future.
