Russian Circles – Verses
Post rock is a pretty unbearable genre name. Apparently some goobers from the early 90′s coined it, and somehow it’s stuck. Does it communicate anything useful at all? No. Yet, here I am using it to describe Russian Circles. Their band name on the other hand is rad, and named after the excruciating hockey drill, that probably made me vomit at some point in my youth.
They might not be as popular as Explosion in the Sky, the presumed flag bearers of the genre in 2012. But I’d argue Russian Circles do more interesting things in the genre than EITS. No use in describing their sound, I’ll wind up using jargon terms that I hate. Just check the track, and if you’re into it, come see them at The Biltmore tonight.
