Los Angeles based duo Poolside have been producing the “Daytime Disco” vibes since early 2010. Consisting of Filip Nikolic and Jeffrey Paradis, Poolside take their name seriously, with Pitchfork describing their first album, “Pacific Standard Time”, as having a “tempo and temperament that call to mind images of a palatial California, where the water is as clear as the sun is bright and the slow drip of time is inconsequential.”
Following the release of “Pacific Standard Time” last year, Poolside have found fans in LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, (who continues to make their cover of Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” a staple of his DJ sets), and are now the golden boys of California disco.
Next month, the boys of Poolside will be stopping by the Electric Owl in Vancouver with Jay Arner and it’s sure to make you forget that summer is officially over. It all goes down on Friday, September 6th and tickets are now available via Ticketweb, and in person at Red Cat and Zulu Records. For more information visit the Facebook event page.

Formed from the ashes of The Ed Fitz, Foals re-invigorated and re-invented a genre with their unique blend of minimal and post hardcore mathletics. In February, the English rockers released their third studio album entitled “Holy Fire.” Debuting at number two on the UK album charts, “Holy Fire” received a 9/10 on NME and was heralded as the bands most honest work to date.
Following a sold-out show at the Commodore Ballroom tomorrow evening, the official after party will take place at Fortune Sound Club with a Foals DJ Set and special performances by Bikes and Mathieu Weary. $10 advance tickets are available at Highlife, Zulu, Red Cat, Beatstreet and online via ticketzone.
For a chance to win a pair of tickets, email winnieguestlist(@)gmail.com by 4:00pm on Thursday, May 30 with your name and “FOALS AFTER PARTY” in the subject line. Must be 19+ to enter. For more information visit the Facebook event page.

May Long Weekend is fast approaching us, and what better way to spend your guilt-free Sunday night than at Fortune Sound Club with two rising musical stars.
After a mesmerizing show at Fortune Sound Club last January, electronic-artist Kastle will be returning to Vancouver with Montreal-based sensation Kaytranada on May 19. Kastle’s forward-thinking music results from his long-time love of hip-hop and R&B, fused with the magnetizing effect that garage, house, dubstep and bass-heavy music has had on him. Kastle’s unique fusions will fit nicely with Kaytranada’s modern take on the luscious sounds of 90′s r/b.
This night will also feature performances by local acts 8PRN and Blue Version. While early bird tickets are sold-out, advanced tickets can still be purchased online or in-person at Zulu, Red Cat, Highlife, and Beatstreet recrods.
For a chance to win a pair of tickets, email winnieguestlist(@)gmail.com with your name by Friday, May 17th at 5:00pm. You must be attending the Facebook event page and ‘like‘ Winnie Cooper on Facebook to qualify. 19+ only. Please Use “Long Weekend Contest” as the subject line.
California trio Like, Mibbs, and BeYoung came together in high school to form Pacific Division. The group has crafted an original timeless sound that is influenced by the golden era of hip hop. Pac Div’s mix tapes and releases (Pac Div EP & The Div LP) simply affirms that good music is timeless while their live show is.
Johnny Polygon hails from Oklahoma and currently resides in Los Angeles. Johnny has become a “rhyme spitting, street-ballad singing, force of nature within the music industry thanks to an immediately distinctive style and a refusal to compromise”. Sounds pretty badass if you ask me.
