French House? Ghibli

Ghibli aka Thomas Michael is an emerging artist from Edmonton.
I first heard about him through the Oh No! Yoko guys (He remixed their track, Go Alien) and have since been very impressed by his music.
Being someone born in the 80′s that grew up on French House / The French Touch it’s always amazing to see younger artist make something fresh and new that was clearly influenced by music that may of come out when they were 8 years old.
Expect big things from this guy. He was also recently featured on Teen Daze’s latest Cultus Vibes: Together compilation with some other great artists / Teen Daze pals.
This track is a Winnie exclusive and is just in time for champagne popping New Years celebrations.

We have a lil interview with Teen Daze and Too High…..
If someone were to dress up as you for Halloween, what would they look like? What would they sound like? What would they say? How would they act?
Teen Daze: Like Ryan Gosling meets Seth Cohen. They’d sound like the hit Halloween tune, “Werewolf Bar Mitzvah.” They’d say, “Gimme some candy, you old battle axe” and they wouldn’t take any guff from anyone.
Too High Crew: Bitch gon’ dress up like th’Crew? Best know’em on a first name rap game… you got a sweater? Who you kill for that? I’m'a find out where you live…
2. Is Halloween the best party holiday? Yes/No? Why?
Teen Daze: “Party holiday” is a myth created by Hallmark.
Too High Crew: Hundr’d p’cent – only time runnin’ way from those pigs be e’zzzy – masks n’shit, yo! Fo’sho!
3. Ultimate Halloween mixtape? 8 songs if you can think of that many.
Teen Daze:
1. The Locust – Live from the Russian Compound
2. Theme From “Cheers”, played at -100% the speed.
3. Godspeed You! Black Emporer – The Dead Flag Blues
4. A.A. Bondy – Skull and Bones
5. Balam Acab – Await
6. Slowdive – Machine Gun
7. Tracey Jordan – Werewolf Bar Mitzvah
8. Babe Rainbow – Shaved
Too High Crew:
Yo, Too High Crew got waaaayyy more then 8 songs…

Depending on your level of internet nerdery you may or may not of heard that Gobble Gobble have changed their name to BORN GOLD.
The group have literally been touring non stop for the last year+ and have managed to spur the Purity Ring and Kuhrye-oo side projects that you will continue to hear a lot more about. They have emerged from playing clandestine basements to festival main stages.
They are coming back to Vancouver this upcoming long weekend, Sunday Sept 4th at the Electric Owl, 928 Main St. The next day is the last day of summer break, it should be celebrated.
Their debut Lp, aptly titled, “Bodysongs” comes out September 20th. Get the MP3s on September 9th if you pre-order the LP at INSOUND
CHECK DA NEW TUNES.
Born Gold – Alabaster Bodyworlds
local support from:

Blood Diamonds. Internet phenomenon / new to the local scene front page celeb / maker of hot fire.
Blood Diamonds – Grins (with Louise Burns on vocals)

+Teen Daze
Pepper Rabbit – Murder Room (Teen Daze Remix)
Daytrotter record an insane amounts of artists (everyone from Mt Kimbe to Wavves and Vampire Weekend) quickly in their studio as they pass through town. It’s often more of an acoustic one take recording that they do which ends up being a very unique raw take on the artist. Teen Daze was a recent recordee which rules. This track is from that session. Check it all out here.
Teen Daze – Violence (daytrotter)
Event Page. Tickets avail at doors. 8pm. Get there early.
The “talents” start at 9 and we have a 12:15 curfew for live music because the City of Vancouver is laaame and want new businesses like the Electric Owl to not be part of our wonderful local music scene. Gregor do something. eff.
