Contest: Win Blackbird Blackbird Tickets @ Fortune
Blackbird Blackbird is the moniker of San Francisco-based music prodigy Mikey Maramag. His unique blend of dreamy folktronica, chill wave and psychedelic pop has garnered him a unique following of trendy bloggers, esteemed critics and hype machine fanatics.
Early last month, Maramag released his Boracay Planet EP via Lavish Habits. Named after one of the top vacation spots in the Philippines, Boracay Planet is a tranquil representation of a sonic paradise. Much like his debut release Summer Heart, his latest effort is technically stunning, with complex textures that layer electronic beats with eery vocals and organic instrumentals. Yet, Maramag never loses sight of those pop sensibilities that make his music relevant across multiple genres.
In you’re digging his new sound as much as I am, come by Fortune Sound Club on Saturday, November 10. Blackbird Blackbird will be taking the stage for an early show with Teen Daze (DJ Set) and Noble Oak. Advanced tickets are $10 and can be purchased online or at Beatstreet, Highlife, and Red Cat Records. Doors at 8:00pm.

the interview show: Young Liars
When it came time to meet Vancouver’s dance-rock makers, Young Liars (no using “the” please!), we agreed to do the interview at the band’s practice space (located mysteriously somewhere in east van). Night of the meet, the band would only give me two cross streets. When I got to the intersection, two members of the band came out and escorted me into the secret lair of Young Liars. I was either going to be murdered or have a funny conversation with one of Vancouver’s up-and-coming talents.

Young Liars “Colours” (Teen Daze remix) Internet phenomenon and friend of the band TeenDaze did this remix for his buds. Teen Daze actually grew up in the same town as YL’s lead Jordan. It’s a really great remix.

Teen Daze – The Future
Teen Daze makes my lady parts tingle, but only in a G rated fashion so there’s no need to freak out.
“The Future” is the third single off his upcoming album “All of Us”, which will be available May 22. But keep your ears open for some new grooves in the meantime, because Daze never disappoints.

Upcoming: FiveSixty Live Concert Series 02
Winnie’s been working in overdrive these past couple of months and she’s killing it, obvs. We’ve got some killer shows coming up and they’re sure to get you laid and/or feeling frisky.
First up is the second showcase in the Live at FiveSixty Concert Series featuring Arbutus act Tops on Thursday, March 29. This dreamy-pop crew are currently on tour to support their new release “Tender Opposites”.
Local sensation Teen Daze will also be taking the stage along with Peace and We are Lovers.
If you haven’t already checked out FiveSixty I highly recommend losing your virginity as soon as possible. It’s beautifully rustic, with a New York inspired interior and an essence that is all Vancouver.
Bands are on at 8:30pm and you can get your tickets for $10 at the door.
