Winniecooper.net Presents: Upcoming

yoyoyoyoyoyoyoyoyyo. We have some hot talents coming for you and we’re giving away two pairs of tickets for each show because we love you. Tell us why you should get them in the comments and leave your email so we can get a hold of you (duh).

June 29th @ The Waldorf

Pat Jordache is coming all the way over from Montreal.  His latest album has just been rereleased.  The original version was one of the best Canadian albums of last year and in Winnie’s own words, they might be one of Canada’s best kept secrets.

Pat Jordache – Get It (I Know You’re Going To)

Slam Dunk is Western Canada’s best kept secret and their album THE SHIVERS is one of the best Canadian records from last year. They are still giving it away for free so sniff that out here.

Slam Dunk – Feral Child

My Friend Wallis. Do you like reverb drenched tropical pop. Of course you do.

My Friend Wallis – Running

July 1st we are doing a MEGA show because we wanted to see how many chill bros we can fit into one place at a time.

Our sweet little darlings, have just graduated high school and it’s summer break. Their brand new EP Pau Pau (pron: paw paw) comes out tomorrow. Look at their silly promo video. It’s so silly just like you, how can you not want to hear it RIGHT now? ugh, can’t wait.

Playing with them the mighty Humans who have a brand new set they just debuted at their much talked about Music Waste show and NXNE this past week.

Humans – Wake Up

TEEN DAZE. Playing new material from his upcoming recordddddd.

This is my favourite TEEN DAZE SONG

Teen Daze – Let’s Fall Asleep Together

Kingdom Cloud have been on my radar for a “long ass time”. We have been exchanging flirtatious emails but it took seeing them at Music Waste to realize how rad these guys are. They will literally make you feel euphoric with how energetic and excited they are playing their indie pop songs in matching outfits.
Kingdom Cloud / Turbo Ranger by reesindiemusic

Metal Mother is from Oakland. Austra meets Coco Rosie. Listen:

Metal Mother – Shake

Yes yes yes, forreal.  We here at Winnieour huge Todd Terje Fans.  Our Friends Resorts our releasing their first material ever / so far.  They have no myspace.  We’ve done four shows with them now and they rule.  +++ Love Dancing Djs

Paul Simon – Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes (Todd Terje dub)

Baphi Lahiri – Jimmy Jimmy Aja (Todd Terje Edit)

Game 7 x The Black Lips Concert

Had a bbq / pizza party with friends to watch game 7. I felt like my heart was going to explode and could barely watch. There were a lot of high expectations / hopes for our Vancouver Canucks. Vancouver’s winter can be dark and depressing and the esteemed Canucks help us make it through this.

Things were not going as planned. The Canucks were down by the end of the first period. It was tense but we remained optimistic. I still thought they could get back back into it in the third period, but they weren’t. Halfway through things were looking bad. As the minutes wore down most people had stopped watching.

There were immediate reports of fires and smoke could be seen rising from the city. This terrible sadness lurked over everything. It was surreal. We left to head downtown.

As we got closer we watched a guy randomly assault another fan in the middle of the street. Injured or unconscious the victim lay in the street stopping traffic. It became evident something terrible was happening. A mob chased after the assailant.

Walking to Georgia and Granville most fans mourned the loss together. Highly intoxicated individuals began picking fights with one another. Mobs circled the intoxicated combatants encouraging them.

Windows began breaking, in the distance cars were lit on fire and there were random explosions. The most delinquent people imaginable were smashing windows. People cheered them on. It began feeling very unsafe. We left.

We made it to the Black Lips show I was supposed to review after looking these demons in the eye. I love the Black Lips and their new album.

I went up to the front to take pictures during the 3 song slot they allow you with a photo pass. I made it through two then went and sat down at the back.

A girl with ample breasts crowd surfed topless (sorry no pics). People went wild but I still felt sombre. Drinking from 5pm on probably didn’t help my cause but I didn’t feel drunk, I felt tired, uncertain and disturbed. The Black Lips finished. It wasn’t an encore night although they did everything they could to help forget the pain. I don’t even think they mentioned the game.

To all those involved after the hockey game that were literally fixated on fucking shit up, please take up a hobby. Play a sport (video games do not count). If you get riled up watching ufc or other sports, you should play one. If you want to fight someone, do so in an organized manner. Sort your shit out please. You’re giving me a bad buzz. I fully support the Vancouver Police and how they handled the situation. If you were beaten you deserved it for obstructing justice while people committed crimes. I’m sending my pictures / videos in and hope everyone is held accountable for their actions.

Time has past. It’s summer. I feel better. I still love the Canucks just as much.
