WinnieCooper x SXSW

Back in Vancouver for a few days now. I have almost recovered. Slept for 12hours last night. Think i’m getting sick. I miss Austin, drinking all day, sleeping little and most of all “being shitty” which we decided the upside down peace sign is the international symbol for. Spread the good word.

Apologies to anyone who wasn’t at SXSW that I pissed off with my drunk tweets.  Thank god, I had my camera and my twitter account or I would have no idea what happened.

Without further adoo-doo.

Day 1. PS I Love You (Kingston, ON) at Canada House.

PS I Love You – 2012

Our cab driver didn’t know where to get any green but he did have MCat. That was a highlight of our trip.  It was particularly nice for James Blake (UK).

James Blake – Limit To Your Love (Tanzlife edit)

Cecil of Gobble Gobble (san fran / Edmonton).

Gobble Gobble – Where is My Mind (Pixies Blasphemy)

Gold Panda – You (UK)

Wolf Gang (far left and middle)(No relation to Odd Future). They are from England and are pretty chill bros.

Wolf Gang – Back To Back (Active Child Remix)

Wolf Gang – Dancing With The Devil (Outer Limits Recordings’ Coco Bongo Club remix)

DAY 2. Hot Panda (Vancouver) at Sxsw Olio, Mint Records, Music Waste Showcase. Oh man their bass player is talented / h h hot.  p p  p please do us show with us in Vancouver Hot Panda.

Hot Panda – Mindlessnesslessness

Grimes (Montreal) at the Olio, Music Waste, Mint Records showcase @ Headhunters. I still havn’t heard back about my marriage proposal to Grimes via twitter. Still open. ooo gawd.

Grimes – Feyd Rautha Dark Heart (karnheartrevisit)

Bikini (Victoria / New York) at Headhunters.

Bikini – ACheerleader

Bikini – ((())) _ Diamond’s Departure

Humans (Vancouver) @ 7-11. Yes we have 7-11′s in Canada. They don’t sell booze though.  I think this is some unreleased new Humans. Hopefully I don’t get in trouble for posting it.

Humans – Way It Happens

Black Lips (Atlanta) at a Vice party.

Black Lips – Bad Kids

DAY 3. HotTub (Oakland) at Palm Door. These guys are like on some Salt n Peppa tip.  Lol. They have a song about 4loko.

Hottub – 1-2-3-GO!

Hottub – HOTTUB (FOUR) LOKOS ONLY MOCHIPET REMIX

Miracle Fortress (Montreal).  (Not the sunglasses bro, he’s alright though)

Miracle Fortress – Maybe Lately

Miracle Fortress – Digital Love (Daft Punk Cover)

Quadron. This Danish duo were amazing.  Soul.  In Vancovuer April 12th.

Quadron – Average Fruit (10.4 Rogs Gradeschool Crush Version)

Quadron – Baby Be Mine (Michael Jackson Cover)

Quadron – Slippin

Skrillex (L.A.) was one of the most intense / fun shows I saw. Duhbbstephhhin.

Skrrillex – Do Da Oliphant

Class Actress (Brooklyn).

Class Actress – Journal Of Ardency

@tristanorchard “Dude. These kids are killing in the back yard. ? R tehy? http://t.co/Nmwrl1u” OMG they were tight and I don’t mean their buttholes. From NY via Arizona.

The Young Friends – I Wont Break Your Heart

The Young Friends – Downtown

I blogged about these guys a while back. It was pretty cool to watch them and find out who they were.  Dead Gaze (Mississippi)

Dead Gaze – This Big World

Eric our new friend from San Fran who works for Intel.

DAY 4. Big Freedia (New Orleans) at the Mess With Texas tent.  Right before everyone jumped on stage and some drunk guy pulled down his pants and showed his peen for a long ass time.

Big Freedia – Get Back

Had to jump the fence to get backstage and then sneak past security to hang off the scaffolding backstage for Odd Future (L.A.).  Some girls started fighting next to me for position and were pulling each others hair.  Diddy showed up and was hanging out backstage.  I swear he looked at me hanging of the scaffolding like a douche with my camera and gave me a lil wink, like, “Never give up kid”. Awesome. Tried to follow him to find the Kanye West penthouse party but I swear he disappeared into thin air. Might of been a hologram.

Tyler The Creator – Yonkers

Tyler The Creator – Sandwitches

Fave chill bro, Teen Daze (Vancouver) at Soho.

Teen Daze – Together

Basketball (Vancouver) at Soho.

Basketball – Suspiros de Chile

Jamie XX (London) at Barcelona.  I told my friend Becky to go ask a guy standing next to the bassbin if he was Jamie XX. Totally was! NBD right. Swoon. Too bad she lost her voice.

FaltyDL – Hip Love (Jamie XX Remix)

Vancouver peeps at an after party on the last night.

DAY 5. Last day. Hanging out in a field at a school killing time before flights home with the roommates. Party pain. Can you tell who went to bed the earliest / is the most responsible?

Stay tuned for the video footage. Just say no kids.

the interview show: Diamond Rings

Everyone loves Diamond Rings! Pitchfork loves him! Robyn loves him! The UK loves him! He even has a make up sponsor!

I caught John (aka Diamond Rings) at the end of a long day. I was his last interview, so I was hoping I would catch him a little looser than his usual serious self. He was his sober self, but so earnest! It’s easy to see why everyone loves him so much.

Diamond Rings on the interview show

Diamond Rings “All Yr Songs” (Go Green remix)

Diamond Rings “You Oughta Know” John shared with me that Alanis Morissette‘s album “Jagged Little Pill” was written about “Uncle Joey” from Full House. That would be Dave Coulier NOT “Uncle Jesse” aka the ultra cool John Stamos. Yep, kind changes how you look at the record if you imagine her “going down on “Uncle Joey” from Full House in a theatre.”

Diamond Rings and his buds PS I Love You are at the Biltmore this Friday. See you there!

Winnie’s Top Albums Of 2010

Here are our faves of 2010. IT WAS A GOOD YEAR ya?

Let us know yrs / wut we missed…

20.Crystal Castles “Crystal Castles II”

Still love you Crystie Castles.

Crystal Castles – Baptism

19. Four Tet “There is Love Inside You”

Bleep beep herp derp. For what ever reason I always link this album with the Caribou album. They came out around the same time and both artists have both been ahead of their time coming perfectly into fruition in 2010.  The prefect blend of lofi organic samples and dance’y beats

Four Tet – Sing

18. Javelin “No Mas”

Kinda reminds me of The Avalanches but way less annoying, maybe a dash of early cut copy too and some dj shadow. It makes me feel like im eating cotton candy.
Javelin – Vibrationz

17. How To Dress Well “Love Remains”

“Love Remains” sounds like it was recorded in the middle of the night underneath the bed to not wake sleeping parents upstairs.  Faint Whisper’y threads of 90′s rnb-esque hooks over lofi riddims.
How To Dress Well – Mr. By & By

16. Drums (self titled)

Surfy / maybe a little bit of the Cure / the new romantics kinda sound.  Drums opened for Surfer Blood at the Bilty and were by far the better act + the lead singers dancing is pretty great.

Drums – Let’s Go Surfing

15. Earl Sweatshirt “EARL”

Free Earl.  16 year old from Cali. His Mom sent him off to boarding school after she heard this.

Earl Sweatshirt – Couch Featuring Ace Creator

14. Diamond Rings “Special Affections”

Epic pop anthems crafted on garage band.
Diamond Rings – Something Else

13. Caribou “Swim”

This album feels like it is tapping into old school house / rave music and makes me want to lose my shit.
Caribou – Odessa

12. Yeasayer “Odd Blood”

This was definately one of the songs of the year and one of those albums people who think about music too much start to hate after a while for being too poppy / accessible.

Yeasayer – Ambling Alp

11. El Guincho “Pop Negro”

Can’t get enough of this Spanish isht. Oh and the music video… thank you for that.

El Guincho – Bombay

10. Salem “King Night”

Rape Gaze / witch house #prayforjack. Lets get frickin dark.

Salem – King Night

9 Kanye “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy”

Kanye I forgive you for being a douchebag.

Kanye West – Lost In The World (feat. Bon Iver)

8. Harlem “Hippies”

Thissss

Harlem – Tila And I

7.Surfer Blood “Astrocoast”

Yeah it’s super poppy and most people are over it because it came out at the start of the year or something. I say it rules. There was a reason it was one of the most anticipated albums of 2009 and it didn’t let down.

Surfer Blood – Harmonix

6. PS I love You “Meet Me At The Muster Station”

From Kingston Ontario. Stadium sized hooks / rock anthems.

PS I Love You – Facelove

5. Black Keys “Brothers”

There was a reason why Black Keys tickets were being scalped for $200 during their last visit to town and this is it.

Black Keys – Next Girl

4. Twin Shadow “Forget”

This album is pure sex.  A little splash of Morissey / The Cure and some serious hits.

Twin Shadow – When Were Dancing

3. Arcade Fire “The Suburbs”

The Arcade Fires killed it this year.  Their live show might be one of the best shows ive ever seen. This “concept” album is epic, full of solid hits that flow so seamlessly into one another.

Arcade Fire – Modern Man

2. LCD Soundsystem “This Is Really Happening”

Murph bro. I love you. Pls do not let this be the last Lcd Album. You never let me down. Yr like a role model and stuff.  When ever I played this album out djing pretty much every time some1 would come and ask what it was. Oh and not to nerd out but the mixing on this album is really bold and amazing too. It pretty much deserves it’s own award. The way that synth comes in on “Dance YrSelf Clean” a minute and a half in or whatever it is. omigowd. I could go on….

Lcd Soundsystem – You Wanted A Hit

1. Best Coast – “Crazy For You”

Bethanies, sometimes people criticize your music and say it sounds real needy, all your songs are about being unhappy without boys ect ect. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being needy. Feminsts and uptight a-holes who are uncomfortable with weakness r teh worst and are the actual weak ones. Sometimes I feel needy, then I play this album and feel better.

Best Coast – Bratty B
