Within the past 2-3 years Vancouver has emerged a lot of talented artists ranging from all sides of the musical spectrum but this year we’ve noticed a growth in sound and community. This list is simply Vancouver artists we believe you should keep an eye on in the new year with a handful of new generation artists plus ones that are re-branding themselves, check it out below!
Formerly from Vancouver now based in New York dance duo Bob Moses consisting of Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance got quite the attention from their debut album Days Gone By, their blues infused house sound will continue to impress without a doubt.
Rapper/producer Matt Brevner has been at it for quite some time now even branching out to directing music videos for the likes of French Montana among others. He’s been quietly working on his next project and we can expect big things on it, expect it sometime early 2016.
Originally from Barrie, Ontario Dave Fields has made drastic progression this year producing his own sound, delivering solid deep lyrical content plus collaboration with Vancity’s nicest JayKin on the way. With his debut album coming out in January we couldn’t be anymore excited for this guy.
Trio band DiRTY RADIO have grown past their great covers and this year have put out their own original work that did not disappoint along with some out standing collaborations. They’re currently on tour with Dragonette & Young Empires, we see these guys spreading their sound farther than Canada next year.
Formerly a band member of Said The Whale, Ekali has been one of the fastest growing producers from Vancouver this year having been sampled on Drake’s mixtape If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late along with some solid remixes for the likes of What So Not, Denzel Curry, Gallant among several others. We can’t wait to hear what he has in store for the new year.
With only having released three songs so far Harrison Brome has become quite the buzz on the internet, this 19 year old not only has crafted quite the sound but his visuals have backed up every single so far. We’re sure to hear a project release in 2016.
I M U R
Duo I M U R consisting of Jenny Lea & Mikey J Blige released their debut EP Slow Dive which was a lyrically raw electronic R&B ride that has us coming back for more. They’ll be releasing a single a month with their debut full length album out in spring 2016.
A long time Winnie favorite James Deen spread his joyful electronic sound this year participating in the Red Bull Bass Camp in Montreal and releasing the On Vacation EP, I Appreciate U plus several cute remixes. (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ

DJ/producer Kempeh has stepped up his production through out the year along with opening for several big acts such as What So Not, Snakehips, Loudpvck among others. His SUMHER EP was a great concept project and latest remixes showcase a promising sound that we’re sure will grow in the new year.

With one of the most unique sounds out of this city Rook Milo has had our attention since his debut EP MMVIII, having released two tracks from his upcoming EP Airhead it sounds very promising.
Local rapper formerly in duo District 36 released his debut solo project See U In LA which has to be one of the finest rap projects to have come out of Vancouver last year. Not only does Seth produce his own music but delivers vulnerability tastefully, we’re sure a new project is on the way.
It was a big year for producer Sleepy Tom who’s constantly growing his fan base with solid collaborations, the pillow cast and even opening for Madonna. Even though he encourages naps… don’t sleep on him this new year.

With the album being a trilogy you can expect 2 and 3 in the new year.
Pomo is a Canadian multi-instrumentalist and producer living in Montreal, QC, Canada. Growing up in Port Moody, BC, he matured through the Vancouver music scene, introducing himself to various elements of music. After moving eastward in 2012, Pomo has hit his stride in the electronic dance music market, joining the likes of Kaytranada, Ta-Ku, and Stwo on the HW&W roster. Drawing from various influences, Pomo makes an effort to distance himself from genre-defining elements while approaching his music from an organic and raw songwriting perspective. Using elements from hip hop, electronic, and 70s/80s funk, the multifaceted producer likes to draw people in with the malleable dynamics of his music, something that attracts himself to artists like J Dilla, Prince, Disclosure, and the emerging EDM scene as a whole. After being featured in Kaytranda’s live set and receiving nods from the likes of Disclosure, Bondax and Gramatik, Pomo has broken into the international market, receiving recognition from media outlets like Vice’s Noisey, THUMP, Earmilk, Soulection Radio, 22 Tracks and many more. Now, growing on his Canadian electronic music notoriety, Pomo is preparing to expand his presence by bringing his live show overseas, making appearances through Europe, North & South America and Australia. Pomo will be returning to Fortune Sound Club June 26th with locals Yurie, Cherchez & Winnie’s JSPH getting things started. You can purchase tickets at Red Cat Records, Beat Street Records, Zulu Records or online here BUT we’re giving away a pair of tickets and all you have to do is email us at email@example.com with “POMO” in the subject line and your first and last name in the body, winner will be contacted by Friday (June 26th). Stream some of his tracks below and good luck!
Paris producer Darius releases his Helios remixes featuring Wayne Snow on vocals with Pomo & Tennyson’s remix definitely catching our attention giving the original track a more upbeat funky sound, stream below.
One of the main reasons for this website is to see local artists grow and succeed in their craft, we first shared Pomo‘s work because Kaytranada gave us a taste of his first songs after the first couple of times he played in Vancouver. Since then Pomo has signed with HW&W along with great label mates like Kaytranada, Stwo, Sweater Beats, Ta-Ku among several others. If you didn’t know Pomo is short for Port Moody which is where he’s from, now he’s located in Montreal where it seems to be the Canadian beat music mecca. David Pimentel aka Pomo draws from several different genres and influences bending elements of Hip-Hop, Electronic and Funk into his own solid sound that stands on it’s own. For Pomo’s recent release of his debut EP The Other Day he’s back in his home town and having the release party at Fortune Sound Club this Friday! Not only are we getting Pomo but New York’s Saint Pepsi will be co-headlining as well along with locals Sadgirl, Kalibo & Cam Jennings. Purchase tickets online here OR if you’re feeling lucky we’re giving away one pair of tickets to one lucky winner and all you have to do is email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with “POMO” in the subject line, winner will be announced this Friday! Make sure to listen to The Other Day below and click here or on the picture above for more info on the event.

Since Pomo signed with HW&W his work has gotten the attention it deserves, this Montreal cat is delivering incredibly well done tracks that carry a unique funk/hip-hop vibe that stands out to the rest of the noise coming out of Soundcloud. If he couldn’t grow on me any more he edit’s one of my favorites.. Sade from her 1988 album Stronger Than Pride. Stream or download this amazing edit below!

Canada is really starting to grow an impressive group of artists, Nick Wisdom first caught my attention with his ASL Singles Club release “Snoopin” & “Beam Me Up” and now he delivers another amazing track with the recently HW&W signed Montreal artist Pomo. Nick’s 4th release “Missus Peel” is out December 10th on Jellyfish Records and includes rappers Moka Only, Solar Scenery, Jon Rogers and of course beat maker Pomo. Make sure to get it for free when it comes out, stream the track below or you can download it from the Jellyfish Records Bandcamp here.
