TIGER & WOODS (LIVE) at CIRQUE

Tiger and Woods

Tiger & Woods, consisting of Larry Tiger and David Woods, are a secretive musical duo that often hides behind a fierce looking leopard logo.  They’ve recently garnered much attention for their funk infused disco, which has probably gotten them more ass than the real Tiger Woods circa 2010.

Their latest release “Through the Green” got them an 8.2 on Pitchfork media, with the track “Gin Nation” even making it on the sites top 100 tracks of 2011 list, coming in at a solid 83.   For the past few months, Tiger & Woods have been touring the world, selling out clubs in New York, London, and Miami.

While the lack of information regarding their personal histories is frustrating, especially if you fantasies involving a hotel room and bubble baths, the epicness of this dream team cannot be denied.  The only scary part is that these dudes are just getting started.

Tiger and Woods

So if you want to experience the magic that is Tiger & Woods, come by FIVESIXTY (560 Seymour Street) on May 25.  Tickets are only $15.00 in advance and are available online and at the following locations: Red Cat, Puff, Zulu, Highlife and Beatstreet.

Also taking the stage is Winnie Cooper co-founder @Tristanorchard, as well as Luke Mckeehan, Joel Armstrong, DJ Woodhead, SKLA and Right Hand Barber.  Doors at 10 pm.  More information on the event page.

the interview show: the stills

When I arrived at the Commodore to interview up and comer Gentleman Reg, I met Tim from The Stills and, out of the blue, he wanted to do an interview. I was all, “Uhm … Great! …How ’bout after soundcheck?!”

Wow. I had 45 minutes to prepare.

Note: Both Gentleman Reg and The Stills are on the Arts & Crafts label, the home of Canadian super indie acts, like Broken Social Scene and Feist.

A typical Montrealer, Tim (with the badge, above) did the interview taking a smoke break. Then Dave (on Tim’s left) from the band joined for a puff.

The Stills are at an interesting point in the band’s life. They just won a Juno for new band (*ahem* three albums into their career) as well as one for best alternative group. And they are one of those bands that have been dissed by indie tastemakers Pitchfork. Not sure why Pitchfork has decided to pick on The Stills… the guys have been making great atmospheric indie rock for three records.

I talk with them about all that and more.

The Stills on the interview show

The Stills “Being Here” My Favorite song on their current record.

The Stills “Snow In California” Listen to this one. Sounds like it is about climate change, but… no. It is about the canceled tv show Carnivale.
