the interview show: Vampire Weekend
Vampire Weekend make an infectious brand of indie pop that incorporates world influences, and their music has rather quickly attracted legions of fans. Their sound has been compared to Paul Simon in his Graceland era.
Some critics slam Vampire Weekend for making what they call “Passport Rock.” Because of the quick success of Vampire Weekend, these same critics don’t look forward to the throngs of imitator bands, anxious to show off the international sounds they have “discovered” while traveling to lesser privileged countries.
Ross and Chris from the band don’t feel these criticisms apply to Vampire Weekend, since no one in the band has been to Africa. According to them, they simply like to incorporate disparate influences—basically everything they like, including hip hop. Vampire Weekend are doing everything they can to make indie rock interesting again.
