Ottawa based rapper XUAVE first caught our attention with his first EP EGO DEATH and the inevitable banger “Bitch I’m Fucking Gorgeous”, hes released several songs since with his two latest definitely standing out from the rest. Check out the music video for “Worry” below along with “Hollywood Sign” featuring INDIA and Quincy Got Rich!.
We’ve been quite excited for Ottawa based rapper Night Lovell‘s Red Teenage Melody project and it’s finally out in all it’s glory. The 14-track album includes production from Blvc Svnd, Blank Body & Glocque plus features from Nessly, Dylan Brady & Wavy Drexler. This is by far one of the most impressive Canadian bodies of work that has come out this year in the “underground” scene but we highly believe he’ll grow past that label with this release. Do yourself a favour and stream RTM below.
With his second project Red Teenage Melody around the corner (out this Monday) Ottawa’s Night Lovell has released quite the bangers to hype up the release. On “Contraband” he once again teams up with Blank Body and on “Louis V” with Dylan Brady which never disappoints. We’ve been excited about this Canadian rapper since his first release Concept Vague which was easily one of the most stand out rap projects from last year. Make sure to cop Red Teenage Melody next week and we hope to see him live on the west coast sometime soon, stream below.
Ottawa based duo Velli Ventura (Romeo Del North & Yashavelli) have released their debut 4-track EP Legend Has It and it delivers a promising sound. Check out the music video for “Hold Up” below plus the rest of the EP.
I met up with Dean Baxter and Jake Boyd (the band’s rhythm section) one sunny summer day in Banff, Alberta. Dean and Jake had just had some “snacks” and were ready to enjoy the day.
Ottawa’s power pop quartet Hollerado are known just as much for their creative marketing stunts as their music. Their 2009 debut full length, Record in a Bag, came in a plastic bag full of confetti. The first print run of their 2013 release, White Paint, was hand-painted by the band and their friends at a Warhol-esque, weekend-long, painting party. Hollerado also offered to write a custom song for the first 200 fans who pre-ordered White Paint. The band then released all those custom songs on their 2015 record 111 Songs.
Dean and Jake were definitely in a vacation state of mind when we hung out, but I got them to talk about craft beer, board games, badminton, going from being a club band to a stadium band, and what to do when band life gets really really hard. Hollerado are working on their next record so I also try to get them to tell me what their next marketing stunt could be. Listen to our fun chat!

Ottawa’s Night Lovell returns with two solid brand new tracks this month with production from previous collaborator Dylan Brady and his father at the end of “Shaded Summers”. His first project Concept Vague was a solid piece of work front to back and these new songs have us excited for what’s to come. Stream below.
It’s been a while since we’ve been excited for a new Canadian rapper, we first heard of Ottawa’s Night Lovell through Cavalier’s “300 Thousand” which was the intro track to the Pieta EP and instantly liked the flow. Just about a week ago Night released his first mix-tape Concept Vague which is a rattling first blow that lingers with you like a cloud of smoke, the 15 track release includes producers Kid Indigo, Bine, Oshi, Fifty Grand, Falco and Night produces as well. This release to us is more than what you normally get off artists these days which is great to hear and see, stream the project above and/or download it here. Can’t wait to hear more!
