Submit 2 TEH MUSIC WASTES 2011

BANDS, COMEDIANS, LOCAL / OUT OF TOWN, SUBMIT! One of Winnie’s favorite cultural institutions / music holidays / festival, is approaching.
Though in its earliest days Music Waste served as Vancouver’s premier underground punk and indie showcase, the annual event has gone on to include a diverse array of genres, from experimental laptop electro to gutbucket country, while also expanding into the worlds of art and comedy.
Organizer Cameron Reed knows the long-running festival has gone through many changes over the years, but he believes the intent behind Music Waste is still to showcase artists outside the mainstream. An open call for bands for this year’s event, which runs June 1 to 4, has the promoter looking for groups that are “trying to expand the genre or do their own thing”. Basically, Reed told the Straight, he’s looking for “anyone with an interesting sound”.
If you haven’t already put your name in the proverbial hat, you might want to get cracking. Fest planners have been overwhelmed by the number of submissions they’ve received since the new year began. “Within the first 24 hours, we got 80 submissions,” Reed noted. “We’re up to maybe 125 now.” Musicians, artists, and comedians are encouraged to contact Music Waste by the submission deadline of April 15 at submissions@musicwaste.ca.

Music Waste, Vancouver’s grass roots independent music, art and comedy festival is fast approaching. Excited? we are. Let’s keep Vancouver awesome and make this years something worth of rioting over. Locals and out of towners, this is the shizz, apply. come and party with us.
Here’s a message from our Music Waste friendz!
Hi Friends,
Send your musical submissions to the aptly named email address: submissions@musicwaste.ca
Music Waste will run June 2nd – 5th, 2010.
Just send a link to your Myspace page and a few pleasantries. Maybe a contact name and phone number.
We don’t need to see any press photos or stupid EPKs. Seriously, we don’t give a shit what you look like standing in an alley against a brick wall or how your band met. It was probably at the mall in line buying jeans at Randy River, wasn’t it? Just be honest.
If you’re not in a band, tell your friends. If you don’t have friends, start a band and take a press photo in an alley. People love people who take photos against brick walls. Take our word for it.
Love you,
MW Team

Mental Beast

Some of Vancouver’s finest have put together “Mental Beast” and “The Eggnog Project”, two very awesome holiday themed projects.
Mental Beast is a 12-episode comedy series that spans two mediums, radio and video. It tells the story of KRML, a radio station on the verge of collapse when hit with Arts Funding cuts. The radio series features on air hosts, Dave and Kevin while the video episodes will explore the behind-the-scenes exploits of the radio station. The KRML staff is comprised entirely of Vancouver’s finest alternative comedians, actors, and performers!
Tied in with it, The Eggnog Project, is a double album compilation featuring 30 of Vancouver’s best indie bands writing their own and interpreting traditional holiday songs. Many of the acts are interviewed on the Mental Beast radio show and their tracks serve as the soundtrack to the web-series.
The compilation has been curated by Music Waste Festival head Cameron Reed and features songs by, Jody Glenham, Kellarissa, Lightning Dust, Vancougar, Adjective, Nick Krgovich (of P:ano & No Kids) and Rose Melberg, Brasstronaut, Secret Mommy, Apollo Ghosts, Fanshaw, Al Boyle of Hard Feelings, Analog Bell Service, B-Lines, Basketball, Blue Violets, Collapsing Opposites, Dandi Wind, Dylan Thomas, Fine Mist, Haunted Beard, Lust, Machu Picchu, Makeout Videotape, Needles & Pins, No Gold, Noobie Noobinson, Paul Anthony, Tight Solid, World Club.
Wowzers!
