I’ve been reppin’ New York act MS MR since their single ‘Hurricane’ blew up on tumblr. Check out their latest video for ‘Fantasy’, off their new upcoming spring release ‘Second Hand Rapture’.

MS MR – Candy Bar Creep Show EP

MS MR - Candy Bar Creep Show

It would seem that New York duo MS MR are currently the Amanda Bynes of the indie music world. They first came onto my radar in early May, when their gothic pop-ballad Hurricane started trending on Tumblr. It quickly reached “Best New Track” status on Pitchfork and was remixed by Twin Shadow soon after.

In terms of background, not much is known about the mysterious MS MR but that actually works to their advantage. The duo’s dark lyrics compiled with the beauty of the lead singers voice sends you into a hyper reality. You become entranced by the words and quickly lose interest in who is actually singing them.

Fortunately for me, MS MR released their Candy Bar Creep Show EP on September 14th and it might just be the best thing I’ve heard all year. It’s just twisted enough to make you feel sane while still incorporating enough catchy beats to warm your soul. Go download it now, because it probably won’t be cool next month.

Holy Other – October 6th @ Fortune

Holy Other at Fortune

It seems like there’s a growing trend in music, that being the less you know about the artist the better their music is. So is the case with R/B sensation the Weeknd and lesser known New York act MS MR. Moreover, for the past year Manchester’s Holy Other has taken the WWW by storm with his spooky, almost goth-like productions.  His 2011 EP With U was described by Ventvox as “one of the best things to come out of the downtempo field in years.”

The fact-shy artist released his debut LP late last month and it’s left his growing fanbase wanting more. Much like With U, Held is meant for the confines of your bedroom, where you can reflect upon your hate for douche bags, carbs, and broken hearts. With that being said, you don’t have to be obnoxiously emo to enjoy Holy Other’s music.

Holy Ghost – Touch

Holy Other

On October 6, Holy Other will be bringing his infamous stage antics to Vancouver, as he’ll be hitting up Fortune Sound Club for an early show with Winnie favs Cyril Hahn and Evy Jane. And yes, there will be smoke machines. Advanced tickets are $12.00 and you can purchase them online or at Highlife, Dipt, Red Cat and Beatstreet.
