Miike Snow’s Sophomore LP – “Happy to You”

I jumped on the Miike Snow bandwagon quite late in the game. It was only after copious amounts of Facebook creeping that I realized what I had been missing. However, I’m happy to announce that after three years these Swedish babes are still my favorite “Socialists”.
They’re the perfect blend of emoish pop-rock and danceable indie, or in other words, a one stop shop. After an intense make-out session at your parents place, you won’t have to change the song for a post petting spooning session. They simply have a little something for everybody in any situation.

If you haven’t heard already, Miike Snow is gearing up to release they’re sophomore LP, “Happy to You”, on March 27. And because the World Wide Web is such a fabulous place, a few tracks have already sprung up. My personal favorite has to be “Paddling Out”, with “Black Tin Box” coming in a close second. While the latter showcases a much darker interpretation of the trio’s sound, the combination of Lykke Li and Miike Snow is a musical version of Prozac. I just can’t get enough. Check out all the tracks below.

the interview show: WhoMadeWho

Last week we left you with another fav show from last year, our chat with TWO local talents, Andrew Allen and the Reckoners.
Andrew Allen and The Reckoners on the interview show.
But this week we are back with some ALL-NEW.
This week we’ve got another undiscovered chilled-out, Scandinavian electronic group. Meet WhoMadeWho!
Yes, WhoMadeWho are named after the AC/DC song, but they sound NOTHING Like AC/DC. These guys DO sound a lot like Miike Snow and Hot Chip, so yeah you should prolly like ‘em a lot.
The guys from the band were so jetlagged that one of the guys was sleeping beside us as Thomas and I did the interview. We had to be quiet! Poor Thomas was so dead tired when we chatted that he couldn’t remember the English names of his band’s songs. Luckily, the soundcheck kept him up during the interview.

WhoMadeWho “Satisfaction” (Benny Bonassi cover) A club classic reinterpreted.
WhoMadeWho “Keep Me In My Plane” Sweet opening bassline. Since English is a second language to these guys, the lyrics to their songs are always so literal and direct. This one is about obviously a fear of flying.
WhoMadeWho “I Lost My Voice” (Moulinex remix) I love Moulinex remixes. Here are more direct lyrics about a singer’s worst fear: losing his voice.

For those of you not keeping up on your Yacht news, Jona Bechtolt has now teamed up with the very sexy Claire L. Evans and the pair are releasing a new album in July. If the rest of it sounds anything like this, it might be one of the best albums of the year. Kinda sounds Pixies esque in a DFA kinda way. For those of you who love triangles (really who fkn doesn’t? they are the hottest thing since circles) check out their seizure inducing new album website.

Montreal’s husband and wife duo, Handsome Furs. I am digging their new stuff, it’s a lil bit more electronic sounding than their last album. mmm yes.
They play Vancouver this Thursday! – I wish they would stop coming to town on dates with really good other shows happening.
