VAMPIRE WEEKEND that is Free and New

Vampire Weekend released their debut album in 2008, aptly titled Vampire Weekend. I liked it. I don’t care. Many people claimed they were ripping off Paul Simon and calling it Preppy, Indie AfroPop. This is not music to feel tough to. This music makes you want to wear blazers and match your belt and shoes and smoke cigarettes out of holders and watch Wes Anderson movies and guffaw at zingers. Which are things I like to do, sometimes! Don’t Judge.
Vampire Weekend have a new album coming out early January 2010, Contra. But! What they’ve done is put a FREE NEW song on their website that you can go and download and decide if you still like them or if it was more of a summer fling.
GO GET IT!
Curren$y X Beck X Dazed and Confused

This new Curren$y track, Newer Pollution, is tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight!! Not only does it sample Beck’s The New Pollution but it’s got a classic Dazed and Confused quote mixed in there as well.
Lettuce thank his Twitter for this solid, solid release.
Meg Kenny is new at this. She has a Tumblr that she’s not so new at.
Lissy Trullie. RECOGNIZE.

Why hate Lissy Trullie. She’s lives in New York City, she’s a former model, a cool haircut, her own band released an EP at the start of the year, she toured with The Virgins for it, and is in preparation to release a full length album for early 2010. Not only that! She’s on the cover of this month’s ION Magazine.
Damn.
What makes Lissy so charming? She’s a down to earth, breezy, woman with a great attitude and a great haircut. She has done covers of Biz Markie’s Just a Friend and Hot Chip’s Ready for the Floor. A Down To Earth mentality coupled with extensive touring and determination towards making it as a musician is why we love her! She wants to be and do everything.

Phil Collins May Never Drum Again!!

Somewhere, Patrick Bateman and Mike Tyson are shedding a single tear.
“Collins told the paper that, after years of sitting in a certain position to play drums, his vertebrae were crushing his spinal chord. He had surgery for the situation, but the end result is that he cannot hold his drumsticks.
Phil told the paper, It comes from years of playing. I can’t even hold the sticks properly without it being painful. I even used to tape the sticks to my hands to get through.
But don’t worry, I can still sing.”
At least there’s that.

Wavves over and over
Wavves! Wavves is a lo fi noise punk sound. Wavves splices Caesars on the patio, pineapple and Malibu in the sand then whisky shots at midnight. The most recent full length album, Wavvves**, is filled with unconventional beach songs: Beach Demon, Gun in the Sun, California Goth, Beach Goth. Wavves knows what it’s like to cycle back to East Van from Jericho Beach. Wavves knows what it’s like sitting on the floor waiting for your friend to try on another pair of pants and then ask you about it and nothing’s changed but you continue to be polite so they just hurry up already.
Getting into Wavves at the end of the summer, start of the autumn is perfect. You’re getting mopey goth songs about the beach, so who really wants to go there when it’s raining.
The best thing about Wavves is that they keep releasing new material. Mickey Mouse and Cool Jumper are songs that have taken off from Possum: the whole album experience is behind these tracks and it’s new music on the fourteen track album and it’s just so super.
