Jeff Koons
Jeff Koons is showing in London for the first time, at Serpentine Gallery.
He famously made this sculpture of Michael Jackson and Bubbles in 1988.
His website is pretty awesome. More artists need their own websites. It’s not as common as you might think.
Pioneer
This is how I remember Michael Jackson.
The next time MJ popped up on my radar was with his music video “Black or White.” The 4 min Epilogue was broadcast on prime-time TV and the media made a big stink about MJ smashing the car windows.

The last time I remember paying attention was when “Scream” came out. At the time, it was the most expensive video ever made.

Strangely, what all these things have in common for me is the imagery. MJ’s videos, dancing and clothing always stood out to me more than his music.
“Michael Jackson made culture accept a person of colour way before Tiger Woods, way before Oprah Winfrey, way before Barack Obama. Michael did with music what they did in sports, in politics, and in television. No controversy will erase the historic impact.” – Al Sharpton

I can’t wait for “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… Part 2.” I have unreasonable expectations that this album will blow my mind.
Check out Raekwon at an all-night grocery store/deli after leaving the studio at 4am. Halfway thru the video he reveals that Nas has yet to come through with a promised cameo on the album. (You’ll remember that Nas was the only non-Wu member to appear on the original “Cuban Linx.”)
The Wikipedia article on “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx…” is awesome. It confirms that the ellipsis in the title were added by Raekwon after the record company refused to publish the orginal title in full: “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Niggaz”. The Cuban Linx he refers to is the popular style of chain at the time, and not a cocaine-supply connection as was originally thought.
