NazcarNation Remixes Pandit

NazcarNation has remixed Pandit’s song ‘Kathryn, My Love’ and turned it into a smooth-just-about-to-be-summer, mood setting, 5 minute mix of sweetness.

Kathryn, My Love (NazcarNation ‘Desecration’)

::::::::::::

Here is the breakdown of Kathryn, My Love (NazcarNation ‘Desecration’):

-  From :37 to 2:20 – English bulldogs will be drooling more then usual, begging for water and humping their owners’ legs.
-  At 2:21 the stripper you have been waiting to throw dollars at all night will finally step on stage from behind the curtain.
-  At 3:25 you might have to get a room (with the stripper, not the bulldog).
-  At 3:40 you will by now know how to handle the loops of sleazy that NazcarNation’s remix of ‘Kathryn, My Love’ will throw you for. If not, then grab a flotation device, because this song will make you get down.

::::::::::::

Here is the official video by Pandit, for ‘Kathryn, My Love’ -

Chromeo Interview

“You sound like you are in a bad mood, is everything okay?” That’s how this interview with David Macklovitch, one half of Chromeo kicked off. But, once we got that awkward start out of the way  and I told David that I was just losing my voice, the conversation proceeded comfortable, casual and energetic as Chromeo’s lighthearted, feel-good funky music.

Get to know 1 half of the duo that makes up Chromeo-oooo-o!

So why might people know Chromeo?

“People who are having sex might have heard or listened to Chromeo.”

What is something the internet might not know about Patrick Gemayel, that you think we should know?

“Hmm. Where do you start? Hold on let me think of something funny. Aah, this is a good opportunity to tell you something good. Oh, okay I got it. P thinks that Celine Dion, is gorgeous. He really thinks she is a beautiful woman. He adores her. This is a true story. We used to work in Montreal, out of the studio she owned. One time when we were there, Celine walked in with her husband and son. Unfortunately for P, she only said hi to me.”

What is overrated right now? “Television.”

What is underrated?

“Hmmmm. Education is underrated. (I start to laugh about David getting political.) Not that I am trying to make this all serious, but a good education for all is very much underrated.”

Do you remember where and who your first slow dance was?

“Yeah. My first slow dance was an extended arm dance. It was 5th grade, back home in Montreal. The girl was really hot. Way out of my league. Everyone was wondering how I hooked it up. Sad, but true, she started going out with someone else a month after our dance.”

And what song was playing? “Patience by Guns Roses.”

What are some people and things that are just so “1980′s” to you?

“Prince. Ronald Reagan. I think about Eddie Murphy. Most importantly I think about videos. I think of the amazing videos that I watched as a kid, that really shaped my modern vision and taste. I was born in 1978. But, as a kid I was just listening to my parents records, but then I started to acquire my own taste as music videos came out. I think of innovation, such as the microwave or neon socks. I think of a lot of hip-hop, a lot of the most music of our generation. It was the greatest decade for me.”

Check out Chromeo’s music video for ‘Turn The Lights On’:
[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/13869078[/vimeo]
What celebrity appears to be a lovely date and a match for you?

“Let’s see. Monica Belucci.

Who else, since I think she is taken?

“What is that others girl name I like? Hmmm that British chick. Alexa Chung. She is alright. Is she single?”

Do you have a favorite word?

“Oh, good question, I can relate. My favorite word changes each week. I have a lot of favorite words. Right now it’s Philistine. I mean I know it’s been around, but this week I am bringing it back. Last week it was assuage which means to alleviate.”

You have a great vocabulary.

“People always use the same five words – sick, sweet, awesome rad and legit. Which is of course okay when describing Chromeo.”

What are you favorite life sounds?

“I like the sound of expensive car door shutting. It’s just the sound of expensive. I like that. I like the sound of a snaffle bottle opening. I got an espresso machine, I like the sound when the espresso is made. That’s a pretty good one. I like the sound when I am wearing a leather jacket, and everyone of my movements.”

If you had to choose a food to eat for an indefinite amount of time what would you choose?

“My mom’s cooking.  All the Moroccan stuff she makes. My mom is Moroccan. If I can’t have that I want Pat’s moms cooking, she is excellent at Lebanese stuff and Italian.

2010 is wrapping up, so what are some of your favorite albums you would have on your best of 2010 list?

“Hands down, my favorite album of the year is Gonzales “Ivory Tower” produced by Boyz Noise.  Then I would have to say Kanye West’s album, cause that’s going to be a good one. The Roots album “Wake Up!”. Oh, I am adding a fourth. The Scissor Sisters album. That was slept on, but really should have been paid attention.”

What Scissor Sisters song do you recommend? “Any Which Way.”

(David goes hm and bum bum bum in between thoughts. It’s pretty cute and so relevant considering he makes music for a living and so his noises are entertaining when in conversation as well.)

What images come to mind when listening to “Business Casual”?
“White pants. Open shirts. And sunsets. Palm trees. Office romance gone wrong.

What track on “Business Casual” would you suggest I play if I want to set the mood?

“Don’t Walk Away is the sexiest song on the album.”

Lastly, who is an artist that you would like to interview to get to know?

“The Suzan all girl band. Signed to Fools Gold Label.”

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

You can catch Chromeo on tour for the next few months. So either you can get to know them by catching the funky-electronic duo at a show, or you can just give a good listen to their new album “Business Casual”.

Rusko Interview

Rusko aka Christopher Mercer has been making people sweat on the dance floor all the way from Leeds to the US to Canada for over 10 years. As the genre – Dub Step has become more widely accepted, so has Rusko. Get to know Rusko and the key ingredients to his sound.

Reasons you may think you know Rusko:

 • Artists such as Diplo and Santogold have been playing Rusko’s hit ‘Cockney Thug’ at shows worldwide.
 • He has collaborated with artists like Hot Chip, Diplo, Amber Coffman (Dirty Projectors) and Trouble Andrew.
 • Rusko has remixed and worked on the production for artists like Basement Jaxx & Little Boots.
 • Sub Focus – Splash ft. Coco (Rusko Remix)

Why might people think they know Rusko? “I spend my life on the road. I am probably going to be in your city soon. Or I am coming there in the next few weeks. Also, I do like to do a lot of videos online. I have a lot of good tutorials and stuff you may have seen on YouTube or something.”

What is your favorite life noise? “I was in Texas this past weekend, I was recording the crickets. I absolutely love that sound. My favorite favorite sound must be, the plug hole of the bath when it is draining. Bath drains in hotels make the craziest noises, some sound like they are burping.” (he laughs)

What is something that will make you cry? “The Lion King, never ever fails. Either that, or hmmmm people who have really tiny apartments with dogs. People who don’t care for their dogs properly.”

What DJ do you think has the best energy? “The Gaslamp Killer he is the absolute dynamo, he has so much hair. the dance starts with the hair. He is my favorite DJ to watch. He freaks out, he wraps towels around his head. Great DJ to watch. I also saw Girl Talk crowd surf on a surf board, he is a great DJ to watch.”

What are three words that you would use to describe Dubstep other then wobble?
“I would say. Bass. Ummm . Funk. And Sweat. But, sweat probably first. People just get down so hard. Sweat is important. So, Bass + Funk + Sweat = Dubstep.”

What is the definition of a hipster to you? “Umm, huh that is a tough one, yah know. A hipster to me is probably someone who finds it more important for them to be photographed, then to actually be there. Just enjoy the music, put your phone down, put it in your pocket – just enjoy the music. Sometimes people will put a message in their phone and pass me the phone with their request for a track to play. You know how everyone has their Mum in their phone as Mum? Well if they want a f*cking request and pass me their phone, I am just going to phone their fucking mom and pass them back the phone. Let them deal with that. Ha. Hipsters can have those memories. Hipsters need to just put their phones and cameras away and live the moment.” (laughing hysterically, both him and I)

What is your go-to pump up song before partying?
“Next Hype by Tempah T. Some, UK grime. Or he has another one called Swing. Which is actually a hilarious video. Those are my go-to pump up songs.”

If you were to spend the day with Kanye West what would you plan for the two of you? “I would probably plan a day going through his record collection. I would plan a day with a recorder and a turntable and just go through his records. I certainly wouldn’t create any music with him!” (car horns are honking in the background, but Rusko stays focused and laughs a bit at his thoughts)

By the way, where are you right now? “I am in West Hollywood on the way to pick up sunglasses. Then going to a a big  feast. Yah know, the crazy life of Rusko. Then tonight straight to the Major Lazer show, gotta support for a bit.”

If a circle of break dancers was to happen at your show, what celebrity would you most want to see in the middle dancing? “Probably Lindsay Lohan. I would like to see Lindsay Lohan break-dancing. I don’t know why, but that would be fun.”

If you were to cast yourself in any film or TV sitcom what character would you play? “I quite like to be in real life George Castanza. That would be ultimate role in any show. ”

If you were to have 1 song play every time you walked in a room, what would your grand entrance song be? “The Spanish Flea by Herb Alpert. I also want that to be my funeral song. I can’t really think of a more jolly.”

Herb Alpert – Spanish Flea

You have worked with Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors (well done), who are some other female vocalists you would love to collaborate with? “I would love to collaborate with Bjork. Really dreamy stuff, I have been a big fan of her for some time. Also, Alice Russell from the UK, she has the best female voice in the United Kingdom. Yes, certainly Alice Russell.”

Rusko – Hold On (Sub Focus Remix)

Ruska – Hold On (feat. Amber Coffman)

So you are about to kick off on some new tour dates. Do you have any pre-show rituals? “Well I never eat or have sex before the show. I am like a boxer. Sex or eating before a show would slow me down. But, I usually drink a lot of vodka and Red Bull.”

If you were to put together a recipe for good ENERGY what would your 4 ingredients be? “Lots of bass. Lots and lots of bass. Probably lots of MDMA. That is my recipe for energy. So the vibrations feel good.”

On the subject of ingredients. I asked Rusko what his favorite recipe/meal is. “This is a very simple recipe that Belinda (Rusko’s wife) loosely follows to make Lamb Balti.” Download the PDF of the recipe here and how Rusko recommends it to be prepared.
LAMB BALTI RECIPE:
4 portions pre-cooked lamb
4 cloves garlic, chopped
8 oz onion, chopped
3 tablespoon ghee
4 tablespoon balti masala paste
8 fl oz stock
1 tablespoon garam masala
2 tablespoon chopped fresh coriander leaf
1 salt to taste

phone is breaking up, so the interview has to come to an end : (

What are your last words? “Kill yourself before it gets anywise.” – Rusko -

Rusko’s Dog pictured above.

:::::::::::: So, You Think You Know? Rusko ::::::::::::::::::

Get more information on Rusko at his website. On October 3rd he will be at Venue in Vancouver. Full tour dates can be found here.

Twin Shadow Interview

Twin Shadow aka George Lewis Jr. has been making a name for himself among the blogosphere.

Reasons you may know Twin Shadow:

 • His debut album, Forget is co-produced by Chris Taylor (Grizzly Bear).
 • His album is the first full length LP available through Chris Taylor’s label Terrible Records.
 • In just a few weeks he will kick off on a tour supporting Jamie Liddell.
 • In February 2010, Stereogum.com premiered his track ‘Castles In The Snow’.
 • TimeOut NY rated George Lewis Jr. one of the most stylish New Yorkers.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Why might someone think they know George Lewis Jr. aka Twin Shadow? “Because the internet told them so.”

Where are you now as we kick off this interview? “Sitting in my bedroom. In Bushwick.”

What are some of your favorite life sounds? “Snow underneath a new boot, that’s a pretty good one. The sound of a blow-dryer, I like that a lot. The sound of getting your hair washed at a salon is pretty great, but that is a mixture of elements.”

What is a word or phrase that you haven’t heard since childhood, but that rings dear to you? “In my family people would say “Doma A Nyonyolla“  – cuddle with me. But, I am not sure exactly how to spell it and it is certainly something that I never ever hear. It’s a very Dominican phrase.”
*please note the phrase is not spelled correctly and needs proper translation.

How does your Twin sibling play a role (if any) in your music life? “I admire my twin very much. Just growing up that close to someone, well – we shared a room for the better part of our young lives, we are very close. She is more of just a life influence, when I started to play music – our lives became a bit separate.”

It’s about the end of 2010 so everyone is going to be making their best of lists. What are two songs you would put on your list? “This is tough, because when you are making music you tend to focus on mainly that. But, I would have to say ‘Surrounded By Your Friends’ by Hurray For Earth and ‘Friday Night’ by Ariel Pink.”

What is your fantasy land, for example Neverland, Oz or a place in your mind? “If I could combine the Dominican Republic with Berlin that would be kind of sweet – that would be kind of like Oz for me.”

Who is your go-to artist of comfort? “Bob Dylan and anything of his between 1964-1974. Whenever Blonde on Blonde came out, start 1 record before that and that is my comfort.”

You have created an all around feel good and sexy album, what is it about Forget that makes you feel good? “Now it feels good to play the songs live, I feel happy that I can play something that is documented. When I was making Forget and finishing every song that made me feel really happy. It’s sweet to have something that is permanent and paid attention to that I made, it makes me happy.”

If you were to road-trip cross country with any musician, who would you go with and why? “Hmm, who would cause a lot of trouble? It would need to be someone who would stir up some trouble with me. I would have to say, I would bring Frank Sinatra back to life and go with him. I would drive, and if Bob Dylan came as well, then he would definitely have to sit in the back.”

What did you teach Chris Taylor (producer and Terrible Records owner) and what did Chris Taylor teach you in your experience working together? “Chris taught me how to be more mindful of the combination of the sounds that I put together to make things fit a bit more. He basically taught me to be more puzzle like. I taught him the opposite, how to smash things together and make them sound good.”

What are your plans post-tour with Jamie Liddell? “I think more touring. We are going to be going to Europe. I would also like write my new record. I expect that Twin Shadow is going to be hitting the road a lot next year.”

What was an eye opening experience you had this year that took your mind off music? “A really good friend of mine died this summer, which was really shocking and a big moment.  I hadn’t answered a bunch of his calls and he was a great friend of mine who lived in Boston, his name is Brian – he passed away very out of the blue. He was just a close friend who I had lost contact with and then his death was so sudden – this has changed me now.”

What is something you find cute? “Lykke Li performing ‘Just A Little Bit’ live on Jools Holland. It makes me turn into a little ball of tears.”

What is the cutest noise on the Twin Shadow album Forget?  “Probably on ‘Tyrant Destroyed’ (the 1st track) there is is a really scrapping string noise, just me plucking on a violin. If you can find that then you may hear something cute.”

On the subject of cute: George (aka Twin Shadow) hooked up an adorable photo of him as a little one, feast your eyes on this cutie:
