David Banner feat. Big K.R.I.T. – Believe
Both reppin Mississippi, David Banner and Big K.R.I.T. come together on “Believe”, which samples Jodeci’s hit record from the 90s “Love you for life”. It will instantly bring you back to a time when R&B was truly at its prime.
“Believe” is the first single off Banner’s upcoming mixtape “Sex, Drugs & Video Games” that is dropping May 22.

Sol – Yours Truly

Spring is here. The season of one night stands, hay fever, and good fucking music. Okay I regress, one night stands are seasonless. Sorry mom. To celebrate this amazing time of year, I suggest taking a moment to blast some Sol through your headphones.
Hailing from Seattle, Sol is the American equivalent of Shad . And while he’s no stranger to the music game, he’s recently made waves with “Yours Truly”, which dropped in January.
It’s success is no coincidence, as it has everything you could ever want/need from a solid hip-hop album. It possesses both solid lyricism and banging beats with just the right amount of sentimentalism. He’s so much more than 16 bars.
Here are two of my favourite tracks:

One Room

Although a direct comparison to the Weeknd would be entirely premature, the music from newcomer One Room elicits a similar emotional reaction. Coincidentally enough, One Room even shares the same “coming out” story.
When One Room’s first track “I Want You” dropped in October of last year, the identity behind this person or persons was uncertain. He/she/they existed only via vague tweets about potential upcoming projects and a tumblr page plagued by too much white space.
Only recently was it discovered that One Room is actually two Rick Ross fans from the lower east side of New York. Samuel and Chris-p aka One Room, seem wise beyond their years and unlike most DIY artists appreciate a well thought out marketing campaign.
But One Room is much more than a strategic PR ploy. The quality of their music speaks for itself. It will get your heart racing before you even press play and I’m almost positive that you’ll reach a musical climax in less than 30 seconds. Moreover, their lyrics invoke an imagery that can only be explained as magical, as they represent your deepest internal conflictions with a brilliantly seductive twist.
With that said, the future of One Room is somewhat unclear. Apparently they’re working on a 2012 tour but without an official mixtape all we have to work with is a few tracks scattered throughout cyber space. However, my spidey senses are telling me that the wait will be worth it. I just hope they drop something new asap, because I’m already jonesing for some more.

OnCue – New Religion

Remember when I told ya’ll that OnCue was about to blow up? Well here it is. He’s teamed up with legendary producer Just Blaze to create “New Religion” and it’s straight up banging. Regardless of what the title might signify, it’s actually low on political commentary and high on good times. Enjoy!

Times Neue Roman – Sade Is In My Tape Deck

You don’t have to be a fan of the 80’s songstress Sade to enjoy this smooth new track from Toronto’s Times Neue Roman. It’s jazzy undertones and psychedelic rhyming will make you crave some B.C. bud. And coincidentally enough, this jam was recorded at a cabin deep within our province’s outback.
So take a minute and let your mind move in slow motion.

Santigold – ‘Disparate Youth’ (Video)
Mark my words, Santigold is taking over. And I’m pretty sure that after watching this video flocks of young females are going to be hitting up their local H&M for some floral trousers.
