I woke up Autograf‘s Mikul and Louis from a nap when I met then at the hotel. In fact they asked for another quick 15 minutes of sleep before we chatted.
Chicago indie dance band Autograf is three guys: Mikul Wing, Louis Kha and Jake Carpenter. Autograf started as an art collective modeled after Andy Warhol‘s legendary New York Factory scene. While working on art installations, Autograf made a few bootleg remixes (including 50 Cent, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and the Temptations) to fuel parties at their Future Factory space. These remixes became incredibly popular and soon offical remixes followed which eventually led to Autograf releasing original material.
Louis and Mikul were still groggy and disoriented when I woke them up the second time, but we had a great chat. How did an art collective become a dance act? What does the band mean when they tell each other to “bask like a lizard?” We start with the most important question: If Autograf is three guys, and Louis and Mikul get the two beds in the Autograf hotel room, where does the third man sleep? Listen to our chat.

LA’s C R Λ Y aka Cheney Ray puts out her first track “1UP” giving us quite a bass heavy track having nice little Super Mario samples through out the track, nice to see a woman do this production thing and on the heavy side of things. Stream below!
The original “All That Matters” came out last October 14th and perceptually changed Bieber’s game both good and bad. Jeftuz (NL) was one of the first to drop a remix, sparing only 3 days and receiving love from well over 2 million people by now. Tommy Jacob (FR) then caught the fever and released his remix another 3 days later for Moose Records.
It’s now been over a year and young future bass/trap producer, oshi, has decided to drop flames with his Bieber remix and we are not mad at all. “[B]een sitting on this for a while, finally here tho my g’s”, the 16-year old writes in the song’s description.

Take a heed at 19 year old producer Yinyues. Based in London, Yinyues’s music provides an innovative vibe to popular songs that some have categorized as future bass. This new & broad genre allows producers to include anything from heavy bass drops to light piano/acoustic as major components of a song.
Check out his remix of Lorde‘s Royals:
