Contest: Jamie Lidell at Fortune Sound Club

Jamie Lidell at Fortune Sound Club

Jamie Lidell has been making music since I was in Junior High, and he continues to create culturally relevant material ten years and one University degree later. He blends old-school R&B with contemporary electronic beats to create a sound that is all his own. His latest self titled release consists of hard-driving dance tracks that are just funky enough to take you back in time.

Jamie Lidell at Fortune Sound Club

In support of his new album, Lidell is embarking on a North American tour that stops in Vancouver at Fortune Sound Club on April 2. (Special guests include Empress Of and Ludwig Persik.) Advanced tickets are $16 and they can be purchased online or at Red Cat, Zulu and Highlife Records.

For a chance to win two free tickets, email winnieguestlist(@)gmail.com with your name by March 31st at 11:59pm. Please use “Lidell Contest” in the subject line.

6/12 – FORT KNOX FIVE Live at Fortune w/ Guests

Fort Knox Five Fortune Sound Club

The FORT KNOX FIVE are a leading force in the international funk and breaks scene. Since 2003, they’ve been releasing an arsenal of floor-rocking original music and remixes via their Washington DC based label, Fort Knox Recordings. Their sound is now known internationally for its distinct interweaving of live instrumentation with funky electronic breakbeats.

Tapped by URB Magazine for its annual “Next 100” list, the FORT KNOX FIVE’s music has been featured on major compilations, films, television shows, commercials and video games. Most recently their music has been featured in the “FRINGE” tv show on Fox, and video games Tiger Woods 2009 and Facebreaker.

On December 6, the FORT KNOX FIVE will be stopping by Fortune Sound Club for a funky mid-week dance party . This night will also feature Timothy Wisdom, Ryan Wells, and a special breaks set by Willisist. Advanced tickets are $12 and can be purchased online or at Red Cat, Highlife, Beatstreet.

TIGER & WOODS (LIVE) at CIRQUE

Tiger and Woods

Tiger & Woods, consisting of Larry Tiger and David Woods, are a secretive musical duo that often hides behind a fierce looking leopard logo.  They’ve recently garnered much attention for their funk infused disco, which has probably gotten them more ass than the real Tiger Woods circa 2010.

Their latest release “Through the Green” got them an 8.2 on Pitchfork media, with the track “Gin Nation” even making it on the sites top 100 tracks of 2011 list, coming in at a solid 83.   For the past few months, Tiger & Woods have been touring the world, selling out clubs in New York, London, and Miami.

While the lack of information regarding their personal histories is frustrating, especially if you fantasies involving a hotel room and bubble baths, the epicness of this dream team cannot be denied.  The only scary part is that these dudes are just getting started.

Tiger and Woods

So if you want to experience the magic that is Tiger & Woods, come by FIVESIXTY (560 Seymour Street) on May 25.  Tickets are only $15.00 in advance and are available online and at the following locations: Red Cat, Puff, Zulu, Highlife and Beatstreet.

Also taking the stage is Winnie Cooper co-founder @Tristanorchard, as well as Luke Mckeehan, Joel Armstrong, DJ Woodhead, SKLA and Right Hand Barber.  Doors at 10 pm.  More information on the event page.
