OLIOLIOLIOLIOOOOO

Vancouver has this insider reputation as being this “no fun” place, which I do not buy into.  I’m of the view, if you’re bored than you’re boring. I know first hand there are amazing things going on in this city.  If there’s any problem, i think people need to be better informed and the scene needs to be supported.

Vancouver’s newest festival is joining in to help fight the cause.  Olio (pron: Oh-Lee-Oh) is scheduled August 13-16th.  They have a nifty little site up with all there deets that you should familiarize yourself with.

$25 bucks will get you an all inclusive pass which is pretty rad deal.  Each day of the festival highlights a different area of town and it’s venues. Every genre of music is represented.  There are some pretty bad ass lineups including an Unfamiliar records showcase night (label to the Japandroids, Clips, No Gold / Paper Cranes / The best lil indie label in town) as well as a Mad Decent showcase with Paul Devro for the closing night party.  It’s all being put together by some of Vancouver’s best people, who are entrenched in the scene (ie not RBC or Coke-a-cola, not that i wouldn’t take their sponsorship money, they just haven’t offered) and this IS going to go off, so big ups Olio.

Winnie is pretty f’in stoked to be involved.  We will be hosting a party at our lil jam space, Funky Winker Beans on the opening Thursday (aug 13th) with Adjective (who’s pretty faces were recently featured on the cover of the Georgia Straight) as well as Vancouver superstars, Fake Shark Real Zombie and BFFFFFFS, The SSRIs, along with the Winnie djs.

Let’s party. ok?

Get yer passes here.  Or at Redcat Records, Zulu, Scratch and Beatstreet.  They will probably sell out as the Music Waste passes did, because Vancouver is actually pretty awesome and you should be glad you live here.  You could be from Sudbury or be getting eaten alive by mosquitoes right now in Moose Jaw so suck it up.

Adjective – Profession
Adjective – Integer (fyi all bands should have 2 min long songs)

Fake Shark Real Zombie – Sour (Portishead Cover)

The SSRIs – Honest (Kevvy Mental Remix)

ok, im going to go eat some fine pastries right now.
