I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, Young Liars are Vancouver’s next big thing.  And in terms of mainstream appeal, they possess everything needed to take their talent to screaming fans in Hong Kong.

So I highly suggest jumping on this bandwagon before some MTV journalist is telling you how sick these dudes are three months from now.  Their even playing at FIVESIXTY this Thursday and tickets are only $12.00, which is pretty damn reasonable considering you’ll be paying triple that when they’re selling out Rogers Arena.   The show is also a breast cancer fundraiser, so it’s pretty much a win-win.  They’ll also be five other bands and a raffle with over $2000 in prizes.

If you could play/tour with any band/artist in the world who would it be and why?

Talking Heads in 1984. Why? David Byrne.

Young Liars have a close relationship with numerous local bands in Vancouver.  Do you think this is important and have Oh No! Yoko returned your keys yet?

It’s a lot of fun hanging out and folks who love creating music like we do. There are similar joys and frustrations to share. And no, we’re still missing those keys.

Do you guys consciously make music that people can dance to or does this just come naturally?

Half and half. We write lots of tracks that aren’t danceable, but we like music that has a good feel so we usually leave the more mellow tracks on the cutting room floor. At least, we have so far.

How have your girlfriends/friends/wives reacted to all the press regarding your bands good looks?

Positive vibes, all positive vibes.

What’s the best Young Liars make out song?

I don’t know, you tell me. My favourite to play right now is Newton, Forgive Me.

If your band were the cast of “Community”, who would be the following?

I’ve never watched it, but according to Andrew, Angelo is Jeff AND Troy combined, Andrew is Abed Nadir, and Wes is Annie. Ty and I don’t fit any of the characters that well.

You recently released a video for your single “Colours”, were any of you self-conscious about wearing all white?

Though you can’t see it in the video, Angelo was rocking some all-white daisy dukes for most of the night. He eventually covered up with another pair of white pants though I’m not sure if it was for vanity reasons or body warmth.

What can we expect from Young Liars in the coming year?

An LP, touring, and a Talking Heads cover.

Dem babes from Young Liars just can’t be stopped.  Not only did their Homesick Future EP bring thousands of music lovers to the dance floor but now they’ve released a video for “Colours” that is sure to make you contemplate wearing white after labour day.

And if you’re dying to see this dudes in concert, come by FIVESIXTY Live on Thursday, May 24, when Young Liars, along with a slew of other indie-rock bands, will be raising money for Breast Cancer by playing some killer jams.  Tickets are $12.00 in advance and can be purchased online, with all proceeds going to the BC Cancer Foundation.

I love me some young British boys, especially when they make dreamy lush pop with just the right amount of musical tranquillity. That’s why I’m down with Bondax, an up-and-coming DJ duo that consists of George Townsend and Adam Kaye from Lancaster, England.  They’re young, just 17 and 18, but they produce music which is oozing with soulful maturity. Get on this train quick, because these lads are going places.

Luckily for me, they’re hitting up FiveSixty nightclub on Thursday, April 12 to support their latest release off Nettwerk Records entitled Homesick Futures aka the perfect post-prom love making album.  Be careful ya’ll, wear a rubber.

Young Liars will be joined by fellow local acts The Ballantynes and Valley Girl, who have the perfect tunes for this supa chill weather.

Tickets are only $10.00 and available online or at Zulu, Beatstreet and Red Cat Records.  Doors are at 8:30pm, show at 9:30pm.
