I have been a fan of Elohim since I first heard “Bridge to the Wall” on Soundcloud and instantly fell in love. I love the anonymity factor that gives me Daft Punk and the Japanese House (for a short time) vibes. She is playing a character.
Elohim opened for Eden at the Rio Theatre on September 7th. Pretty simple lighting setup on stage with her, 3 synths, midi triggers and a laptop. She walked on stage in her full XAAX rain coat and everyone was excited. There was a bit of a delayed start after she took to the stage due to what I imagine were technical problems. It was a bit disappointing but was quickly forgotten as soon as she started playing.
If you’ve listened to her before you would be familiar with the Microsoft Sam-esque voice she had talking for her throughout the night saying things like “Hello, I am Elohim”. She started off with 2 new songs and then went straight into a slightly different version of Bridge to the Wall. Following that she played the first half of Xanax, which then transitioned into a Hip-Hop remix of the song. One of my favourite moments of the set was when she played Joe Jone’s “You Talk Too Much” and then broke into “She Talks Too Much”.
She finished off with one of my favourites “Sensations”.
Overall the set was solid and I look forward to seeing her again as her live set changes.

At only 20 years of age, EDEN (real name Jonathon Ng) is making music with the emotional vulnerability of someone twice his age. He graduated High School a few years ago, but sings as though he thoroughly understands the politics of love and heartbreak.
Formerly known as The Eden Project, Ng changed his moniker in 2015 after a transition in musical styles. While this can be tricky for any emerging artist, the new alias seems to be working for him. He’s now signed with Scooter Braun, the man known for making Bieber, and has created a sound that mixes pop sensibilities with deeply poetic lyrics and dark melodic beats.
His highly anticipated EP, i think you think too much of me, is out early next month and already houses two hit singles, “sex” and “drugs”. If you wanna be transported into a world of pure sonic bliss, press play. I dare you. This kid, I mean young adult, really is future bound.
EDEN makes his Vancouver debut on September 7 at the Rio Theatre. Get your tickets here.
