The Canadian prince of disco grooves Cyclist is back today with this acid-tinged funk flip of Vancouver’s Neighbour, featuring Piper Davis on vocals. One of the heaviest hitting mid-tempo burners we’ve heard at Winnie in a minute, be sure to check out his excellent summertime flips of Rogue Vogue and Anoraak.
Cyclist & Maiko is a collaboration between Toronto-based soul queen Maiko Watson and DJ/producer Mark Penner (aka Cyclist). Today they released a music video for their funky, soulful jam ‘Shine‘, directed by Adam Goldhammer and production company The Field. Sit back and let this laser light show take you to outer space.
For more Canadian poolside disco, be sure to also check out their recent single ‘Sunrise’.
A month ago Vancouver’s Pat Lok put out “Move Slow” which premiered on THUMP as a music video, this fine house track has gotten support from Karma Kid, Kastle, Anna Lunoe and many others. Today we get the Remix EP for “Move Slow” which includes Amsterdam’s GANZ & Sir OJ, LA’s Jeffrey Jerusalem & of course WMNSTUDIES. The duo give the house jam what they do best, a refreshing Tropical Disco remix that only they can pull off so nicely. Get the rest of the Remix EP here and make sure to check out Pat & WMN’s monthly event “White Noise” at the Electric Owl which has been bringing in great House, Nu Disco & Dance music in general. Joshua Collins – To The End (Cyclist Remix) *Free DL in Description* by Cyclist
Throwback proper disco from Cyclist - this one brings to mind a slow motion Russ Meyer montage. Don’t sleep.
The first release of 2014 for Vancouver homeboy Pat Lok features local heroes Bear Mountain. ‘Same Hearts’ is a fun vocal house jam, accompanied by three remixes from Oxford (as featured on Goldroom’s recent Beatport broadcast), Ride The Universe, and Shelby Grey. You can cop the OG mix for **free**, while the other mixes are available on all major digital distributors. Early support from Goldroom, Cosmo Baker, Drop Out Orchestra, Mighty Mouse, and Cyclist.
MANI/PEDI Records is a new label launched by Toronto’s Cyclist and Portland’s Karl Kling (of RAC) with a focus on “slightly weird disco and house music.” Their debut release, Deep In The House of Love, is a quirky cowbell driven number stealing influences from italo disco and 90s rave anthems.
“We are interested in making dance music that isn’t necessarily being represented by other labels that we are aware of so we decided to start our own label to have the freedom to experiment with different forms of dance music, combining a plethora of influences without worrying about conforming to one specific genre. The artists and tracks you’ll see us releasing on MANI/PEDI are inclined to that same experimentation.”

Our favourite Canadian disco don Cyclist is back this week with Shine, an original boogie jam on Continental Records (Kitsune founder Jerry Bouthier’s new imprint). Touched with the sultry stylings of fellow Torontonian Maiko Watson on vocals, this one will funk you straight back to the roller rink. Peep the video and grab a free download.
Body Music, the debut album from AlunaGeorge (of Disclosure – White Noise fame) is out and it’s been on repeat at my spot since leaking. Your Drums, Your Love might be one of the best pop songs in the last 5 years. Here’s my disco take on the opening track with Kutcorners on bass.
