Friday Baby

Oh man.
If this doesn’t get you excited for the weekend, then we might not be able to help you.
Breakbot ft Irfane – Baby I’m Yours
Winnie <3 U.
Ah Yes. Friday.

Sooooooooo the weekend’s almost here.
You can sit around in your undies, or get ready and go dancing. Or you can go dancing in your undies.
Either way, this little jam here is appropriate.
By now you’re familiar with A-Trak and AVH as Duck Sauce, right? Well, then you’ll recognize this… oh man is it ever good!
Final Edition – I Can Do It Any Way You Want
If you’re in Vancouver, dance along with the Winnie Cooper DJs at 37 West Hastings for NO MORE STRANGERS! Live guests this Saturday are CANARIES and COLOUR AND THE SHAPE, plus special guest DJ Brock To The Future!
Woooo sweaty. Play safe kids!
Sunny

Basically a one-hit wonder, this track from Central Line never gets tired.
Originally released in 1981, the legendary Larry Levan also released his own version.
Can you guess who has sampled it? Too easy!
Central Line – Walking Into Sunshine
Friday!

Geeeez… was this the longest week ever or what!? Here’s your feel good Friday tune.
Yes bartender, make mine a double.
Sylvester

Here’s some 80s disco synthy goodness from Sylvester… soooo ripe for sampling.
It’s not really a remix, but more of an extended intro edit. Check out the hilarious lasers at around 4:00. So spacey.
Sylvester – Do You Wanna Funk (Remix)
Friday Anthem

This is Matthew Wilder’s one solo hit. He later went on to produce No Doubt’s, “Magic Kingdom” album.
Happy Friday!
Matthew Wilder – Break My Stride
I miss the suburbs for the records.
I knew nothing about this group when I found the record several years ago at some Value Village in the suburbs. I looked at the cover and immediately thought, “Whoa. It’s like a bohemian Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. And High INERGY? Is that a typo? This MUST be sweet.” It cost me $1.
It turns out I’d end up finding a track that I would fully rinse the following year.
Then I forgot all about it until today when I was checking out some Debarge YouTube vid. It’s a tightly composed 80s disco funk track complete with farting synthy sounds.
High Inergy – He’s A Pretender
Check out the extra kicks at around 3:10!
Heads up: This is someone else’s slightly dodgy rip (there are some minor pops/clicks and the pitch flutters a bit). If you’re into a proper vinyl rip, let me know and I can get my ass in gear to finally do it… or if you’ve got a cleaner copy, please hit us back. Sharing is caring.
Haven’t You Heard

Of course you’re familiar with the ever popular Forget Me Nots and probably even Remind Me, both from the highly recommended 1982 album Straight From The Heart.
Besides being soooo heavily sampled, Patrice Rushen is also a classically trained pianist. The keys figure prominently in this amazing, lesser known track here:
Patrice Rushen – Haven’t You Heard (Larry Levan Edit)
The original by itself is so nice, there’s really no need to sample or tweak much… but the track might sound familiar. Woop woop!
