Digits

Winnie readers, meet Digits… Digits, meet the peeps; we think you guys will get along. Digits (AKA Alt Altman) is a chilly-wavy electro pop indie kid from Toronto. Check out his new track “So Cold” from his up and coming album.

Effing Harper

Here in Canaduh-land everyone I know is really pissed about the recent election of Prime Minister Stephen Harper in a majority government.

It’s kind of funny because if everyone is so upset, then who the hell voted for him? Well most of the urban centres didn’t vote for him at least. I think it’s those dodgy folks in the suburbs that don’t care about the environment because they SUV to work perhaps? Maybe they also don’t care about the arts because they get all the arts they need every-night watching the Jay Lenos? Whatever. Everyone is pissed.

It wasn’t a total loss. They are saying Jack Layton’s / The NDP rise in the number of seats they have is perhaps due to the youth vote and social media? so maybe we do have a voice. Too bad everyone else is so shitty but that’s life right?

Anyways, why am I even going on about this, the election was like two weeks ago dude…?

Our pal from Toronto, Digits decided to write a song about Mr Harper:

I have a new song to share with you all! For non-Canadian listeners, pictured above is our Prime Minister Stephen Harper, an odious man to say the least, who won absolute power in last week’s election due to major flaws in our outdated voting system. The illustration is by Roxanne Ignatius.

Digits just released a new album. He is giving it away for free / by donation.

+Digits+

Our pal Digits from Toronto just sent over some lovely new material for us.

He’s Canada’s yet to be discovered Erlend Oye, perhaps? He makes icy minimal synth pop.

the interview show: Digits

What is Alt Altman aka Digits expecting in the mail?

Indie electronic acts were once a rare breed in our frosty north. First Junior Boys, then Caribou paved the way for indie dance, and Alt Altman assures me that Digits is only one of the many new faces ready to change the scene. Just please don’t ask him to talk in a fake British accent.

Like dance rogues LCD Soundsystem, Digits tackle strange topics in their songs. My fav “You’re Going to Age” is all about getting old.

Digits on the interview show

Digits “Sarah”

Digits “You’re Going to Age” (Schaatz remix) Cool remix of an already cool track.

LCD Soundsystem “You Wanted A Hit” (Soulwax remix) We both love how James Murphy manages to skewer himself and his scene in all his songs.

Caribou “Odessa” (Junior Boys remix) During the interview, Alt Altman imagines being in Dan Snaith‘s band.

the interview show is everywhere! (interviewshow[at]gmail.com)

Digits just released the album, Hold It Close to the critical praise:

“‘Hold It Close’ is electro-indie pop at it’s best.” – CBC Radio 3
“It seems impossible to separate the the hushed soulful vocal of Alt Altman from the ghostly presence of Arthur Russell, which is of course immediately endearing.” – 20jazzfunkgreats
“Hold It Close succeeds at the seemingly impossible: simultaneously revisiting the past and time-shifting these dated sounds into something fresh and 21st century.” – Chart Magazine

Come see him for his first trip to the West Coast.
