the interview show: Chromeo

I was one of the few media dudes to get a chance to talk to Chromeo while they warmed up in Toronto. It was a bit of a gong show, with bad cell reception and the main guy from Holy Ghost! soundchecking in the same room. I do manage to get some great quotes from P-Thugg and he even gives a little bit of advice to one of our listeners (and a devoted Chromeo fan)!!!

Also check out around the 22-minute mark for a special guest spot by local actor, Bruce Silverson! Even more nerdy goodness than usual!

Chromeo on the interview show

Chromeo “Don’t Turn the Lights On” (Aeroplane Remix) P-Thugg‘s fav remix from the current release, Business Casual.

Chromeo “Needy Girl” (Lifelike remix) An oldie, but a goodie.

Chromeo “I Could Be Wrong” (ft. Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend)

the interview show is everywhere! (interviewshow[at]gmail.com)

Your Friday Song(s)

body sweater

With the weather turning colder lately, it’s time to break out the thick knit sweaters and the fuzzy blankets.

It’s also that time of year when I begin listening to some darker, smoky jams too… here are some tracks I’ve had on high rotation while sporting my customized Snuggie.

Turn it up, it’s Friday. Let’s gooooooooo!

Chromeo – Night By Night (Skream Remix)

Fever Ray – When I Grow Old (Bassnectar Remix)

Hot Mess

Chromeo has a new single out on Mountain Dew’s label, Green Label Sound.  It’s their first new original single since 2007, can you believe it’s been that long?  They have a new album in the works.  Are you excited for it?

Chromeo – Night By Night

The Twelves recently released a new mixtape with a slew of new remixes by the duo, including this one.  Get on google or something to find it.

Zeigeist – Humanitarianism (The Twelves Remix)

Yacht + Classixx!

Yacht – Psychic City (Classixx Remix)

Someone sent this to us and it’s 2many djs aka Soulwax so how can we pass on posting it?  My gf works in the same room and keeps complaining every time I play it but hey this aint no club and it’s not Friday night + it reminds me of Kittenz and The Glitz.

Felix Da Housecat – ELVI$ (2manyDJs EDIT)

Some nice indie elctro.  Is the term indie still relevant? Is there a better genre to call this?

Chairlift – Bruises (Passion Pit Remix)

Thom Yorke has a new couple of singles out.

Thom Yorke – The Hollow Earth

Most Improved live acts of 2008

In 2008 I hit an all time high caught in a whirlwind of quality people, copious amount of “must go to” gigs and moments on the dance floor where I just wanted to stop time. I’m so thankful and fortunate to have experienced over 160 performances this year.

I’ve seen a considerable change in stage presence for artists I’ve seen several times. 2008 was a big year for letting loose, here’s my choice for Most Improved live acts of 2008

-Mmmm

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – -
Chromeo
from Oct 4, 07 @ Fabric
to Oct 12, 08 @ the Commodore

Surkin – Chrome Knight feat. Chromeo

They have always been two true friends out to have a good time and share the electrofunk that they’ve been brewing up in their basement. Add a splash of Red Bull production to The Big Bang @ the Commodore, there was no choice for the overflowing abundance of Chromeo lovers to break out the fancy footwork and cheer them back onto the stage several times for an encore galore.

MGMT
from Feb. 1 08 @ The Bourbon
to April 6 08 @ Coachella

MGMT – Of Moons Birds and Monsters (Holy Ghost! Remix)

I was surprised to hear that MGMT was opening for Yeasayer @ the Bourbon in Feb. It was hands down a sold out double bill, but it was obvious by their performance that they were like a deer caught in a head-on collision of success from their debut album Oracular Spectacular. From the Bourbon to the Coachella performance it appeared that they got a lil’ grip on their success. The trio song encore at Coachella, Electric Feel, Time to Pretend, and Kids made me jump to my feet to shake what little I had being sun drunk and immobilized by fun cookies. I truly wonder who they will pass on the torch to in 2009. Who will have the same caliber of music?

Justice
from Oct 13, 07 @ the Commodore
to March 25, 08 @ the Commodore

Birdy Nam Nam – The Parachute Ending (Prod. by JUSTICE)

Their religious obsession with towering stacks of speakers and synths spilling with wires made me think, what are they really doing up there? on the internet? In any case, besides the slap-ass bass & synths it was great to witness how personable they can be. For the first time ever ½ of Justice, Xavier de Rosnay, walked out onto the crowd like we were water, and was held up high.  Not only that, he exited the front doors with the sheep like fans in tow and the strict Commodore security wouldn’t let him back in.

2008 Top 20 Tracks… according to Flores

storm

Well, the year is almost officially over and it couldn’t come soon enough… it’s time for my TOP TWENTY SONGS OF 2008!

You know I’ve never been the kind of person who could say with full conviction which movie is my favourite of all time or what the best restaurant is. See, I find it will almost always be dependent on how you feel at that particular point in time.

Of course, music is the same way. Even the most mundane routine in your day to day life can be perfectly captured by some song. And that song at that exact moment is the best song there could be… (Garden State would not have been as good a movie without that amazing soundtrack)

So anyways, it goes without saying then that I had some difficulty selecting my TOP TWENTY.

There are definitely songs on my list that have been fully rinsed in 2008. But hey what can I say? I ain’t no snob… I’m a fan of pop music just as much as I am a fan of the indie and sub-pop jams.

I won’t bore you with a commentary on each track.

Here are twenty 2008 tracks that have stood out to me… haters, get your hate on:

20. Metronomy – A Thing For Me (Mad Decent’s B-Live Miami Mix)

19. Matt & Kim – Good Ol’ Fashion Nightmare

18. Santogold – Say Aha (Tepr Remix)

17. The Kills – Cheap and Cheerful

16. Ratatat – Mirando (YACHT Remix)

15. Portishead – Machine Gun

14. Friend – Secret

13. Mike Jones ft Lil Wayne – I Done Did It

12. Feist – I Feel It All (Escort Remix)

11. Radiohead – Reckoner (Diplo Remix)

10. Kid Cudi – Day ‘N Nite (Crookers Remix)

9. Lykke Li – Little Bit (CSS Remix)

8. Lil Wayne – A Milli (Say-Wut Remix)

7. Ladyhawke – Paris Is Burning (Cut Copy Remix)

6. Treasure Fingers – Cross The Dancefloor (Chromeo Remix)

5. Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire

4. Crystal Castles – Courtship Dating

3. Friendly Fires ft Au Revoir Simone – Paris (Aeroplane Remix)

2. Empire Of The Sun – Walking On A Dream

1. Cut Copy – Lights & Music (Boys Noize Happy Birthday Remix)

Goodbye to the year that was… brighter days ahead?
