OnCue

All right, before we begin I’ve got something to get off my chest in order to appease my ego. I’ve been hyping OnCue for almost two years. So please don’t think I’m jumping on the Cuey bandwagon now that his new track “Rich Kid” is blowing up cyber space.
I downloaded his second mixtape “Leftovers” in December 2010, and was immediately impressed by his ability to take chances in a musical category that already rendered him an outsider due to genetics and his childhood upbringing.
This Brooklyn based rapper is emotional without being emo and has sampled everyone from Coldplay to Tracy Chapman. I always knew Cuey would make it, especially with the recent successes of Mac Miller and Mike Posner, but it seems a bit too soon. Don’t get me wrong, the dude deserves it, but I’m not yet ready to let my little rap secret go. However, the sheer brilliance of “Rich Kid” makes that utterly impossible.

OnCue has been hooking up with producer CJ Luzi for a while now, but for “Rich Kid” he also teams up with Brenton Duvall and the result is a concoction worthy of Hogwarts. The production value is hella tight and Cuey takes the appeal of sleeping with a rapper to a whole new level. (He’s even willing to pay for the taxi back.) And when the chorus drops you can’t help but sing along with the tag line, “I never was a rich kid but best believe that I’m dying one”.
I”m almost ready to propose marriage via twitter. Hope he doesn’t think I’m moving too fast.
For more on Cuey, check out his latest mixtape “Can’t Wait”.
