Special Mashup Post #1
Mashups are great. It’s all about the novelty of hearing a song in an entirely different context, bringing attention to different elements that you wouldn’t notice. True, a lot of mashups are nothing but functional dancefloor fillers, but there are also some really good works of art in the mashup world. Here are some examples. They are both from mix CDs but still highly listenable as songs.
The Beatles vs Kraftwerk - Tour Da Elenor Rigby (Soulwax Remix)
Chicken Lips - Zeefungk Clap Slap ft Ciccone youth - Me and Jill
part of the weekend never dies
PART OF THE WEEKEND NEVER DIES — the DVD!!
coming in August
PAC-MAN styles
This song was featured in the critically acclaimed flash game “Frank’s Adventure 3″
this version has a pretty cool intro
Powerpill - Pac-Man (Choci’s High Score Mix)
This song is way better and uses less pac-man gimmicks
is your crew UNRULY?
There are a few new things happening in the Bmore world. This Hollerboard thread pretty much says all there is to say. If you like Bmore, support the artists by buying some digi-EPs here or here. (The Unruly online store seems kinda sketchy, but i’ve bought stuff from there before.. it works)
This is an mp3-free post.
Pop-Styles 2

I was on Ministry of Sound a couple weeks ago looking for some hetero-electronica cheese videos (girls working out, girls playing soccer, girls working out, girls playing sax, girls working out, nurse-girls cloning guys and testing them to make sure they’re heterosexual). I wanted to see if there were any new ones that topped the pinnacle of the genre, Benny Benassi’s Satisfaction. Didn’t find anything, however I was pleasantly surprised by this amazing peice of work (DIY net culture electro steez?). Awesome song too.
If you live in the UK you can buy this single on iTunes UK.
Frank Musik - Three Little Words
Pop-Styles

Here are a couple popular blog-style electro-indy hits. Not sure how well these embody the DIY internet culture that spawned their style, but who cares: they’re catchy and they’re popular.
Katy Perry - Kissed A Girl ( <–on fire )
Friends need more friends
Friend’s music is likely to make you dance like the dudes with their eyes closed in this party pic.. NOT like the girl with the crazy beer.
Friend is unsigned! ……so what.. right? Well, not only that.. he is not even on hypemachine!!
Unsigned,unhypemachined,.. aka FRESH MEAT!!! Bloggers, you know what to do. If you’re not a blogger…..
This disco edit shit is trendy as hell right now, but something about this stuff suggests that this individual transcends trends………. although his song titles are kinda cheese-tastic.. His artist title is a good gimmick though b/c bloggers can make jokes and make readers laugh, which is important, but not extremely important.
Friend - Stomp it to the Ground
this is Bee
What’s going on winnie cooper?? Special thanks to the boys for having me on board.
I will start with some words. Scott was picking my brain for justification on why bmore still needs to be talked about, and i promised him i would post what i told him, so here goes:
Baltimore Club is a totally new genre of music with new rules and new ideas, but no matter what, it is closer to house then hip-hop. Baltimore City was unique in its urban musical development in that they embraced house instead of rejecting it. While most cities, by the time the 90’s arrived, lost house to hip-hop’s homophobia, in Baltimore they had a drag queen MCing at one of the biggest clubs. Bmore loves house. Go to DJ Technics’ site and see how many mixes he has dedicated to house (can’t find that section right now but it’s there somewhere).
So, yeah, bmore club = new black house, and to me it’s an exciting departure from Whitey’s stronghold on the genre for the past decade or so.
Here’s a fresh summer house jam from Baltimore:
