Tops

Tops have been born out of the ashes of now defunct Montreal based Winnie fave, Silly Kissers.
In TOPS’ new song, Diamond Look, singer Jane Penny re-imagines herself as an impossibly distant beauty queen – mocking all suitors, perpetually a rooms-length away. Her vocals pierce through layers of instruments to tell a story of glamour and fame. David Carriere coaxes semiprecious guitar figures, while Thom Gillies and Riley Fleck provide a driven yet serpentine backdrop.

New Grimes LP “Visions”

Grimes is about to release her third LP, “Visions”. Recorded entirely with Garage Band she is wanting it to be considered her debut despite her previous output. It is set for a January 31st release.
From the Arbutus Records website:
Her newest album, Visions, incorporates influences as wide as Enya, TLC and Aphex Twin, drawing from genres like New Jack Swing, IDM, New Age, K-pop, Industrial and glitch.

Shit that makes me melt

Montreal’s Arbutus records is perhaps the best little underground indie pop label in Canada featuring such acts as, Sean Nicholas Savage, Pop Winds, Grimes, Silly Kissers & Blue Hawaii a boyfriend girlfriend duo.
We’ve posted Dream Electrixra by Blue Hawaii before. I’ve since got a hold of the entire ep it is from, “Blooming Summer” which is available as a free download….! (HOT TIP A lot of the Arbutus albums are available for free via their website…)
They have a label showcase Sept 30th at the amazing Pop Montreal festival. As if you needed an excuse to visit Montreal…
Perfect music for this rainy late summer Vancouver day.
Oh and it took me a while to figure this out but Blue Hawaii has Raphaelle of Braids singing.
Here’s the first 3 songs from the ep.
