Have you heard? Norwegian rockers Supermale have been recording in Vancouver for the past several weeks with local Vancouver producer Tyler Johnson AKA Digg. Winnie got a chance to sit down with them and she thinks they’re pretty great… and their music? Even greater.

A new project emerging from the eight-person Norwegian band “Pony The Pirate“, Supermale boasts a indie rock look with an electro pop feel. Influenced by the likes of Arcade Fire and Röyksopp, their new material goes from analog to fiddles and cellos; to say the least.

You can now add Skizzy Mars to the ever growing list of successful Frat Rappers.  Think Mac Miller but with Yeezy’s danceability and you’ll be close to describing the musical stylings of this young up-and-comer.  At a mere 18 years of age, Skizzy Mars aka Myles Mills has made a name for himself via his strategic sampling and emotion driven storytelling.

Mars grew up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, far from the urban culture that has fostered some of rap musics biggest names. Yet, this doesn’t deter Mars from telling his own story, one that’s about growing up in a generation plagued by exaggerated expectations and teenage motherhood.

He recently dropped a remake of one of his first tracks “Sirens” and it brilliantly showcases what he does best.  It’s cocky but tries to remain nice. No word yet if this track will be featured on his upcoming project “Phases” but regardless of where it lands, expect big things from Skizzy Mars in the months to come.

Vancouver’s Snak the Ripper has a voice that tells a story before he even spits a rhyme. His voice is raw with emotion and it’s fuelled by a passionate anger that is sure to make the girls squirm, in more ways than one.

He’s garnered an impressive virtual following over the past couple of years with Yelawolf, Tech N9ne, and Raekwon all calling themselves fans.  And for my fellow street art enthusiasts, you may remember Snak from the Stompdown Killaz graffiti movement that was featured in Banksy’s Oscar nominated documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop”. You can check out some of Snak’s personal graffiti below.

Snak is currently working on his third solo album “White Dynamite”, which is set for an early 2012 release date.  But if you’re still itching for a Ripper fix, he recently teamed up with Canadian dupstep giant Datsik and the result is BANGING.  “Fully Blown” is an epileptic shock to the ears or as I like to call it, sound on speed.  Enjoy the ride.

ADAM KADMON is a dance-punk/noise trio from Vancouver or as it’s described on their facebook “2 polite quiet asians and one loud outgoing white boy”.

Their music is definitely not for the faint at heart. A key feature is definitely the hypnotic catchy bass lines and 90′s feel. Even though KADMON is fairly new to the scene both of the shows they’ve played have been packed full. It probably has something to do with the fact that even though there is an obvious comparison to DFA 1979 they’re doing something different from a lot of the other bands in Vancouver. Not to mention they cover songs like Alice Deejays ‘Better off alone’! Oh and the lead singer is kind of a babe. Make sure to keep an eye out for their next show as I’m sure they will only get bigger and better.

In a minute and thirty-seven seconds Frank Ocean does something that most male artists can’t do given twice that time frame.  Put simply, he makes you want to do everything that your conservative mother told you not to. He even makes Juicy Fruit seem dirty.

“Voodoo” was dropped via Ocean’s Tumblr a few days back and its everything that you’ve come to expect from this member of the Odd Future cohort. It’s smooth, sexy, and scandalously seductive. Although It’s still unclear whether this track will appear on his debut studio album, which is set for a spring release, I doubt anyone will complain if it is.
