Ruffled Feathers + Wake Owl This Friday

We know, we know… Granville Street sucks; except when you have a lineup like this. Our cats The Ruffled Feathers and Wake Owl are playing down there this Friday so it’s probably a relevant time to show up. Opening the show is Vancouver fav Chris Witoski. Winnie Cooper won’t see you there this time, but I will.

Upcoming: HOUSSE DE RACKET

Let’s face it, January freaking blows. Pastels are out of season, dogs are dressed up in tiny little outfits for brief walks on the Seawall, and those dreaded UGGS are in full force. Before you go rediscovering your emo adolescence, I’ve got some news that is sure to blow your mind. Timbre Concerts and WinnieCooper.net present HOUSSE DE RACKET on Thursday, April 5 at the Electric Owl.
Before trading gangster tales with Dr.Dre and Snoop Dogg at Coachella, this pop-rock duo from Paris will head down to Vancouver in support of their latest release “Alesia”. Tickets are $13.00 in advance and available online at www.northerntickets.com, at the Northern Tickets box office (located at the Vogue Theatre) and via phone (604-569-1144). Saturday: CHECK DEEZ GRILLZ

It would seem that throughout history all of life’s most urgent questions have been eloquently answered by Female MC’s. It was Lil’ Kim after all who asked “How Many Licks Does it Take Till you Get to the Centre”; an issue that men had been pondering for decades prior. To repay these ladies for enriching our lives and solving our most intimate of inquires, Ponyboy and Winniecooper.net present CHECK DEEZ GRILLZ, Saturday, December 17, at the infamous Astoria. Hosted by man babe Rad Stewart, this event will bring out some of Vancouver’s hottest hip hop DJ’s, including DJ MISS M.
Although she currently resides in Vancouver, DJ MISS M (@djmissm) has travelled around the world opening up for such musical heavyweights as Nelly, Fatman Scoop, and T-pain. And as the only female member of the DRAMA SQUAD CREW, featuring GTL junkie DJ Pauly D, DJ MISS M is proving that females really can do it better.
Here’s a recent interview with MISS M, where she describes her musical roots and gives you a preview of what to expect come Saturday.
How Did you Start Djing?
I bought my first pair of technics 1200′s and $99 stanton mixer on ebay Practiced for 3 months everyday then started looking for gigs.

What sort of songs can we look forward to on Saturday (if you can pick 3. can you tell us a sentence or two about each?
1. Pass that Dutch – Missy Elliot (Great track to get everyone going)
2. Rock with you – Michael Jackson (One of my Favorites)
3. Jay-Z feat. Amil & Ja Rule – Can I get a What What
Top 3 albums of 11′?

Message to undergrads?
Have fun. Do something you love and don’t wait 10 years to realize what it is.
So ladies, get ready to work those thighs, because MISS M will be spinning the hypotonic slow jams of hip hop’s favourite pretty boys, Drake and J-Cole.
