SWARM
Flores went to NYC last month and I forgot to tell him that the art world closes down for 3 months every summer. Artists have been finding finding ways around it, like exhibiting in the Hamptons where all the Manhattanites go to vacation.
Vancouver did its best this summer with the Drawn Festival. Thankfully everything is getting back to normal starting this week with SWARM, the annual art gallery crawl. Check out their website for full schedules. And remember, it’s FREE!
Powell Street Festival

Heyheyheyhey! The 33rd Annual Powell Street Festival is this weekend. Vancouver’s celebration of Japanese Canadian arts, culture and heritage. It’s at a temporary new location, @ Woodland Park (just off Commericial & Venables) as the regular site is under construction for the Olympics.
Not to be missed is the Rhythm Clash performance. They killed it last year and are back again Sunday, @ 2pm featuring No Luck Club (on keyboard, laptop, turntables) and Total Constructive Interference taiko with Naomi Kajiwara also on taiko drums and Alcvin Ramos on shakuhachi flute.

+++Food, musical/dance performances, martial art demos, arts/crafts + the legendary sumo tournament!
Check out other highlights of the festival here or take a gander at the full sched of events.

Jeff Koons
Jeff Koons is showing in London for the first time, at Serpentine Gallery.
He famously made this sculpture of Michael Jackson and Bubbles in 1988.
His website is pretty awesome. More artists need their own websites. It’s not as common as you might think.
Whoop Dee Doo
Whoop Dee Doo is a fake public access TV show featuring pre-planned performances accompanied by live audience participation based in Kansas City, Missouri.
Jamie Warren is one of the founders. She’s a rad artist.
