Quick Look/Quick Listen: Giuliano Rascan

I’m old, but I’m not THAT old. But I increasingly feel older and older. When I was 16(damn, that was 10 years ago) I was using Kazaa to download West Coast rap and shitty pop punk, one track at a time. I had friends who played in bands, most of whom barely knew how to play their instruments. And if a show came together, there’d be 25 people there.
Well, shit’s changed. There’s no better example of that than Giuliano Rascan. At just 16, he’s starting to kill it in the EDM scene both in Vancouver and abroad. YouTube videos with views in the 6-figures, more and more of a profile at shows in Vancouver clubs, and the respect of his peers including support from Zeds Dead, Figure, Zomboy and more. With original tracks and remixes with sounds allover that EDM buzz word soundscape, I threw a couple quick questions at Giuliano before the release of his upcoming Waiting Here EP.

What’s the first song you remember making? How old were you? When’s the last time you heard it?
First song I ever made, wow.. honestly I would hardly call it a “song” but it was called “I like it”. I was 13 at the time, really had no idea what I was doing at all, practically clicking buttons inside of FL studio just to hear what they did. Last time I heard it was about 3/4 months ago when I hopped on my old PC and listened to all of my old projects that I had never even bothered to upload, I actually get embarrassed listening to those tracks, but its cool to see how far I have come!
What’s the best part of being the only underage age person(presumably) when you play a set at a nightclub? What’s the worst part?
Best part about playing a nightclub underaged is probably the fact that I actually get to enter a nightclub without having to be 19 years old, its a very different atmosphere compared to all ages events, and the crowd seems to be alot more into the music. The worst part I would have to say, is that after my set I technically am not allowed to be in the club, and having to leave the club right after a set is not always what I want to be doing!
What non-EDM do you listen to? Caught a Lamb Of God reference on your twitter account. Is that a joke, or are you a metal fan?
As of now, I dont listen to anything non-EDM actually, but I am a huge metal fan at heart(especially Lamb of God, not a joke!). My dad was the one who was the biggest metal fan, and I was always around him listening to bands like Kiss, Metallica, Rammstein, Black Sabbath etc. I think when I produce heavier genres like dubstep, that metal side of me tends to shine through with the heavier sound!
Make sure to check out what Giuliano has up on Soundcloud before the release of his EP, and follow him on twitter at @giulianorascan.
