Feature: Iggy Azalea

Let me start off by saying this, there are plenty of reasons to hate Iggy Azalea. She’s a white female from Australia who raps about bad bitches but models for Williminia. Moreover, one might argue that she temporarily exploited her relationship (or lack there of) with A$AP Rocky for publicity and/or industry respect. In the end, Iggy is left with a “Live Love A$AP” tattoo on her finger and he blatantly denies the relationship altogether.

However, beyond her porcelain skin, unstable love life, and frequent feuds with fellow female rappers, most notably Azealia Banks, you can’t deny the girls got lyrical flow. While she’s no Missy Elliot or even Lil’ Kim circa 2000, Iggy’s blatant sexuality mixed with her grimey rhymes make it impossible not to listen at least once.

After several mixtapes Iggy released her first EP Glory in July of this year, with features from T.I., Pusha T, and Mike Posner. It’s lyrics are at times outrageous, as Iggy likes to rap about her physical appearance, materialist tendencies, and sexual exploits. But in reality, that’s exactly what most male MC’s do and we think nothing of it. Iggy isn’t taking herself too seriously and thus neither should we.
Is she as good as Azealia? I guess that’s up for you to decide. No trolling here.

I think the problem with Hip Hop is that we ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS have this perception that we can only have ONE female artist that’s at the top. She is nothing like Azealia Banks, or Missy, or Kim. Why the comparisons? Also if comparing female artists why is Rapsody never in the conversation? Because she doesn’t flaunt her sexuality? With all that said, we should take Iggy for who she is. A hot chick that can rap as well. She has some pretty dope songs in my opinion. Haven’t check out her complete EP so I can’t truthfully say she’s here to last though.
