the interview show: Bonjay

Toronto-based Bonjay are an interesting duo. Talented singer Alana Stuart almost signed a big record deal, until she found out they wanted to make her over into “Donna Boogie.” Instead, she found DJ Ian “Pho” Swain at a party and Bonjay was born. Bonjay‘s music starts at dancehall, but veers off somewhere different. They are both strongly committed to creating something new. You have to respect that.

Bonjay “Jamelia” (Caribou cover)

(If you listen carefully, you can hear Diamond Rings talking in the background of this one. For such a quiet guy in these interviews, he is sure loud in others.)

Sunny Lo-Fi Pop Outta’ San Diego

So there’s this kid named Max Greenhalgh (AKA Inspired & The Sleep) from San Diego. he basically takes the excitement from Vampire Weekend, the experimentalism of Yellow Ostrich, and the mystique of Grizzly Bear and then outperforms all of them. Winnie thinks he should move to Vancouver… or at least play a show here. Check out his video for “While We’re Young” and download the track for free from his BandCamp here. Oh, and by the way… Max did this at home.

Shout outs to our Cali homies Tribe Of Zebras who have been releasing some heat as of late.  Winnie says they are going to be a big deal.

I love how they’re using this picture at Lighthouse Park from their Vancouver trip in their promo. It appears we have to have them back soon.

Check out some remixes, originals, and a new mix for the kids.
