SXSW 2011: Must See Bands

Planning your SXSW schedule can be overwhelming, so you have to just know the for-sure must-go-to-see acts and then go-all-out the rest of the day.  Below is a list of artists we plan on seeing once if not three times, while Winnie and crew are down in Austin covering SXSW 2011.

17 MUST SEE BANDS PERFORMING @ SXSW 2011 :

The Belle Brigade (Los Angeles, CA)  ‘Sweet Louise’

Chad Valley (Oxford, UK-England) ‘Up & Down’

Jamie Woon (London, UK-England) ‘Wayfaring Stranger’

Pepper Rabbit (Los Angeles, CA) ‘Babette!’

Ice Black Birds (Brighton, UK-England)  ‘Ears To The Ground’

Hands (Los Angeles, CA)  ‘Magic Fingers’

Guards (New York, NY)  ‘Born Free’ (M.I.A. cover)

Bikini (Victoria, BC-Canada)  ‘American Mourning’

Skrillex (Los Angeles, CA) ‘With You Friends’

Callers (Brooklyn, NY)  ‘Heartbeat’

Eskmo (San Francisco, CA)  ‘We Have Invisible Friends’

Jonquil (Oxford, UK-England) ‘It Never Rains’

Givers (Lafayette, LA)  ‘Ceiling Of Plankton’

Phantogram (Saratoga Springs, NY) ‘When I’m Small’

Geographer (San Francisco, CA) ‘Kites’

Pacific! (Gothenburg, Sweden) ‘Narcissus’ (original)

Cults (Brooklyn, NY) ‘Go Outside’

Many of these bands have been creating a name for themselves in their hometowns and across the inter-webs. So if these artists are already on your radar, then just say “duhhh” and give yourself props. If these bands aren’t on your playlist yet, download the mp3′s above, then go out buy the music and if you are heading to Austin, we hope to catch you at their shows! Visit the official website for SXSW for more information.

Follow @winnie_cooper for updates from SXSW in Austin on March 16th – 20th.

Homesick Future

photo by Steve Louie. Young Liars at No More Strangers, Sept 20th 2010

Vancouver’s Young Liars have released their debut EP, “Homesick Future”.

Winnie really can’t say enough good things about it.

Not to brag butttttt, we’re pretty stoked on being the first to blog them back in August… because they are going places.  Their live show is tops too.  Congrats guyss we’re rooting 4 u.

You can buy the ep, which is #7 on Itunes Canada’s Electronic Album chart for $5.
