the interview show: Treat Me Like Dirt

Many are unaware of this, but Canada did contribute to the original wave of punk bands in the late 70s and early 80s. Those bands were mostly forgotten for decades, until author Liz Worth got turned on to those early Canuck punk acts, like The Diodes, and decided to track down as many of those bands as she could find, and write a book about their recollections of the scene. The result is Treat Me Like Dirt: An Oral History Of Punk In Toronto and Beyond.
Her book has done the unthinkable. It has sold out two printings, which is unheard of in the Canadian press, let alone for a book about bands everyone seems to have forgotten about. The book has also helped reignite interest in those original punk bands. The Diodes are back together and performing again.
This week, I chat with author Liz Worth and then interrupt The Diodes frontman Paul Robinson‘s dinner for a few questions!

From their forthcoming album, Basketball continues their climb up the mountain of ancestral resonance through the jungles of South American cadence.
‘Suspiros de Chile,’ inspired by the catastrophic earthquake in Chile in February 2010, celebrates the strength and prowess of a peoples devastated by natural forces.

Your guess is as good as mine as to what exactly this is all about, but go to this link and good random music plays, complete with download links. It seems like it streams music from a handful of rss feeds. There’s also a really nice fade when you click “next”.
In an internet full of web 2.0 glitz and social networking/marketing brouhaha it’s refreshing to see stuff like this.
