the interview show: Wolfgang Gartner

We’re back!

Wolfgang Gartner exploded on the dancefloor with his electro-fication of Beethoven‘s “5th Symphony.” This remake is flat out the best dancefloor import since SebastiAn and Mr. Oizo tricked out Rage Against the Machine‘s “Killing In The Name Of.”

Wolfgang tells me that when he was working on the track, he knew it would be a hit. Listen to what else he will or won’t say.

Molly Schiot Interview

Molly Schiot has got spunk, style, energy and direction. Molly Schiot makes witty films, commercial videos, videos for fun, beautiful drawings and art for all. She appears to be a fabulous person to know. Check it …

Reasons you may know Molly Schiot:

 • Molly was listed in this years 40 under 40 for The Advocate (1 of only 13 women).
 • Molly made the out100 list for out.com, alongside people like Wanda Sykes and Cyndi Lauper.
 • She directed a music video for The Raveonettes with Cass Bird for a Dr. Martens 50 year anniversary series.

Why might someone know Molly Schiot? “You saw me on the Megatron at a GNR concert at The Boston Garden.”

Where are you as you are answering these questions? “In the cleanest and neatest apartment in Soho that belongs to an old Japanese man.”

What is the most unique thing about your dog Maddy? “She has the need to engage in certain rituals and repetitive behaviors to reduce her anxiety.”

If you could bring back any celebrity from the dead to photograph them, who would it be and what would the concept be for the shoot? “I think Shirley Chisholm. She is a huge inspiration to me and the concept would have to just grow organically.”

How many tattoos do you have? What is your favorite one? “I have 5. It’s my family tree through portraits.”

What are three artists that you think we should look out for in 2011? “Cass Bird. Warpaint. Pieter Hugo.”

Warpaint – Billie Holiday

What is overrated right now? What is underrated? “Overrated, those guys that wear blazers and no socks and weird flat pointy shoes and shorts that are too tight and unflattering. Underrated would have to be Light Asylum. The woman sings like Ian Curtis and Joan Armatrading.”

What is your go-to snack of inspiration? What is your go-to song for inspiration? “Snack would be coffee. Go-to song ‘In The Air Tonight’ by Phil Collins.”

What is a painful noise to you? “A bus that makes that painful SSSSSS noise. I think it’s air being released from breaks. It hurts me.”

What do you have hanging on the walls of your bedroom? “Nothing.”

What commercial was released this year that you were like “damn, I wish I could take credit for that”? “Cadbury EYEBROWS by Tom Kuntz.”

What piece of your work would you say best represents who you are? “I love the new Doc Martens piece. It’s romantic and vague.”

For Dr. Martens 50th Anniversary, The Raveonettes cover The Stone Roses ‘I Wanna Be Adored’. The music video is directed by Cass Bird & Molly Schiot. You can download the track FREE here.

What is something you want the internet to know about you? “It doesn’t need to know any more then it already does!”

Fridayyyyy I’m In Love

Oh my. We have something special planned for Vancouver tomorrow.

No More Strangers at the Cobalt plays host to Pierced Arrows a “legendary” act from Portland on Vice records…

Pierced Arrows – The Doorway

Pierced Arrows – Tripped Out

Pierced Arrows – Paranoia

“Formed out of the ashes of Dead Moon, who played a big part in shaping the sound of the Pacific North West during it’s existence from 87′-06′. The band consists of Fred Cole, his wife Toody and Kelly Halliburton. Fred began playing in bands at the age of 13. By the age of 15, Cole was fronting a Las Vegas R&B band and being touted as “the white Stevie Wonder”. Cole started and played in a beavy of bands between 1964 and the conception of Dead Moon in 1987 including: Deep Soul Cole, The Weeds, The Lollipop Shoppe, Zipper, King Bee, The Rats, The Desperate Edge, and The Western Front.”
He has played with Janis Joplin, The Doors & The Ramones to name a few. He is one of the grandfathers of garage, punk and grunge rock and certified legend having played music and inspiring people for the last 46 years….

Also with local legends, Hard Drugs and Thee Manipulators.

++++
This is just silly but had to be done…. Afterwards, New Orleans queen of sissy bounce, Big Freedia plays our private No More Strangers after party at Goodie.

Freedia has been blowing up outside of her New Orleans home as of late being a standout at the past SXSW, NXNE and Sled Island Festivals.  Her and her dancer’s play with Major Lazer the night before and then us..! INSANITY.  Also playing djs Genie, My!Gay!Husband! and Hunk The Drunk bringing the bounce and bootay anthems.

Big Freedia – Azz Everywhere

Big Freedia – Gin In My System

Big Freedia – Rock Around The Clock

wtf is “Sissy Bounce”…?
