Listen To The Good News

The Good News are my latest band crush.
Even though I’m broke and my family hates me, this band’s cheery indie pop gives me that feeling that things are gonna be okay. The melodies are catchy and the hooks are dancey. Annnnnnnd they’re from Vancouver! That’s like all my fave things rolled into one burrito.
Have a listen and you’ll wonder when (not if) they’ll be signed to a record deal. Check out more of their songs on iTunes.
The Good News – Backstage Underage
The Good News – It’s Too Soon To Call
If you’re in Vancouver this Friday, don’t miss out on The Good News performing at Damaged Goods at the Astoria! I’m pretty sure you’ll find Winnie Cooper there too.

The Crayon Fields are from Melbourne. This first one is a remix from their new album of the same name. The second is from their 2006 album, Animal Bells.

the interview show: La Roux

Every once in a while a new act blows up, demanding everyone’s attention. This year it was Ellie and Ben aka La Roux. Sweet new wave-reminiscent beats and Ellie’s androgynous mystique –not to mention her powerful voice– have made her a star in the UK and an indie phenom here.
La Roux will be back in North America in 2010. Until then, you can check her out on itunes and listen to my tea with Ellie from La Roux.
La Roux on the interview show (Ahhhhhhhh… Uhm… Some interviews… uhm… just …uhm… get away …uhm… from you, but I am still at my nerdy best, godammit!)
La Roux “Quicksand” (Mad Decent remix) (This remix was commissioned to help La Roux crack the North American market.)
La Roux “In For The Kill” (Skream’s Let’s Get Ravy Remix) (This one is Ellie’s personal favorite.)

This special edition of Black Label is gonna be suuuuuper fun.
Basically, it’s FLORES vs DANA D and we’re gonna be trying to one up each other all night playing the biggest funnest tunes ever ever EVER that you know you love and might not want to admit.
If you’re in Vancouver come by the Lamplighter this Tuesday and get crazy with us… say you know Winnie Cooper and I’ll give you a hug. Or maybe an air hug (H1N1).
