I went to visit my parents over the long weekend.
True to form, when I arrived, my dad was wearing a ‘Let It Be’ t-shirt and blaring the Sgt Peppers album on a 4-track reel to reel.
Pretty much from birth to age 10, I heard at least two Beatles songs per day and could recite most of the lyrics by the time I was 12.
I thank my dad now for basically raising me on the Beatles and we have both been really looking forward to the official release of the Beatles remastered catalog today (although it’s looking like I’ll have to battle it out to get my hands on a set).
The Libertines do an excellent job on this Beatles cover by not straying far from the original.

Oh yeah… and leave it to Yoko Ono to cause some controversy whenever she can.

yoko ono isnt good person at all….
Due to an unexplained dislike of the Libertines that I think is a result of my stubborn nature I’ve always steered clear of this tune. However, I think I must be mellowing in my old age as I quite enjoyed listening to it this morning. I still prefer “Ticket to ride” by Echo and the Bunnyman, but then they are scousers I suppose.
wow i totally agree. i was never big on the libertines either, but this rendition here is pretty stellar i think (only because it’s as close to the original as it can get).
haven’t heard the echo and the bunnymen cover, but will definitely search it out on your recommendation!
I dunno, the covers alright but not better than the orig.
Libertines – can’t stand me now is a classic but I don’t care for their other stuff much
a cover is a cover… of course it’s not better than the original. how can a cover of any Beatles song be better than the original.
