What’s Beef?

okokokokokok so…..
Sparklehorse’s Mark Linkous and Danger Mouse of Gnarls Barkley fame have co-labbed on a crazy lil album called, Dark Night of The Soul. The album was to be sold with a coffee table book of similarly dark David Lynch photographs (who’s singing talents are also featured in two of the songs).
Somewhere along the line, EMI who was behind the project, decided to pull the plug on it.
The production team decided to pull a little stunt and the book has ended up for sale through, Dnots.com and includes a blank cd-r in place of the album with the message ‘For Legal Reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will,’. *Which I think is a hint that you should download it? The book has subsequently sold out.
Apparently this all has something to do with an ongoing dispute between Danger Mouse and EMI which dates back to DM’s Beatles/Jay-Z mash up, the Grey Album which contained uncleared use of the Beatles catalog which EMI owns. The album was responsible for launching Danger Mouse from bedroom producer to superstar, overnight.
The album includes an all star cast of contributors, everyone from Nina Persson of the Cranberries, Iggy Pop, Wayne Coyne, of the Flaming Lips, Black Francis of the Pixies, James Mercer of the Shins (I can go on, but I won’t).
The album has **somehow** managed to survive and make it out to the good ole world wide web.
The stand out track to me, is this here little ditty by Julian Casablancas of the Strokes. While there are some misses on the album it is definitely worth a listen. I give it a 7 winnies out of 10 rating. They are streaming it over at Dnots.com.

Beat It Flash Mob

Flash mob shit is always entertaining. Combine it with some MJ and well… AMAZING.
This should spawn a worldwide MJ Flash Mob battle. You heard it here first.
Oh Bloody Hell

I went for a quick bike ride last night. I just wanted to burn off some anxiety.
So I’m ripping along the downtown streets, feeling good… and then ‘pop’. My rear tire deflates beneath me and so does my mood.
Geeeeeeez. This blows chunks.
Canadian boys DVAS might help lift my spirits.

Plus a double vodka tonic.

Aziz is radical. He’s doing more Raaaaaaaandy (sp?) in the upcoming “Funny People” movie.
Classic Material: Better Days

It’s amazing how a simple note pattern can stand up over time.
The Winnie Cooper DJs love vintage house jams, and this classic contains a piano riff that’s been sampled repeatedly. It was produced in 1989 by Jimi Polo and Adamski who are planning to work together again this year, 20 years later.
More recently, you’ll recognize it from last year’s Lo-Fi-Fnk track Want U.
This track was originally released as a B side. Like wow. Yeah, I know right?

Goodbye Michael

I haven’t got much work done with Michael’s memorial going on. What did you think?
This is a little twisted (like Michael’s life) but I was waiting for him to pop out of the coffin and yell, “Surprise bitches! It’s me I’m back! I knew y’all still loved me.” Talk about the best comeback ever…. And it would be perfect timing with his concerts set to start in a week.
I felt like it was all pretty somber, sad stuff. Couldn’t it have been held at an outdoor venue? I don’t know why Kobe Bryant had to be a part of it as well?
Personally, I find caskets to be really creepy and it reminded me how I want to be cremated.
And what was with the E! entertainment commentators speaking about it afterwards? I’m not sure what the other networks did but I found it a little weird hearing from the same dbags that took such pleasure in mocking him, and talk about whether it was right to have his daughter, Paris, speak or not. That’s where I turned that fucker off. Dude is dead, memorial is over. Now you flip to an episode of Cheers that is already underway.
But on a serious note, hearing his daughter speak and his family was some powerful stuff and definitely helped to humanize Michael in a way that Kobe Bryant and Queen Latifah didn’t (for me at least).
This song has come to me. I don’t know why, I’m notorious for misreading things and it probably is about doing too much blow and eating Mars bars, but it somehow spoke to me and my mixed up lil mind.
