The Days Are Long

If you ever find yourself in the middle of a huge open field on a warm sunny day, lay on your back, face the sky… and listen to these:
R.I.P Dash Snow
God Spoiled A Perfect Asshole When He Put Teeth In Your Mouth (2008)
The End Of Living, The Beginning Of Survival (2007)
Silence Is The Only True Friend That Shall Never Betray You (2006)

Lets Rock Y’all

Just bought a ticket to Vancouver.. yes yes y’all.
Hustler White – Deadly Toe Ring (Dj Assclap remix)
Roxanne Shante – Lets Rock Yall
Mmmmmmmkay.

I overheard this… because the guy was talking to me:
“Yeah I like French house. You know, like La Roux and stuff.”
By that logic, Au Revoir Simone MUST be French too. Oh, and Phoenix are from Arizona.
La Roux – Quicksand (Mad Decent Remix)
Doye.
Raining Lazers

Winnie! I’ve got one huge remix and a Glitch-hop mixtape for you.
This remix of slayer sounds like it could have been done by Soulwax. Soooo awesome. Holds to the original and is perfect for the random drop at the club. It’s off the Database Ugly Edits Vol. 2 album floating around the net.
Slayer-Raining Blood (Sexistalk Re-Edit)
And this mixtape by Lazer Sword has been stuck in my car for about a month now. Classic top 40 hip hop verses over glitchy electro beats. Best Mixtape I’ve heard in awhile. So money.

the interview show: the Dodos

The Dodos are a San Fran group who make so-called “psychedelic folk”… Take a listen. Whatever you call it, it’s great stuff.
The Dodos on the interview show
The Dodos “Fools” If you are in the US, this song makes you crave beer. If you are in Canada, this song makes you crave _______.
The Dodos “Red And Purple” This song is not often played in the live show anymore. Sniff. Yet it exemplifies what their “Visiter” record is all about.
The Dodos new record “Time To Die” is out this September. They are on tour like mad to promote. Check their myspace for a full list of dates. I’m gonna be cravin’ _______ when they *finally* hit Vancouver in October.

Black Mold

Winnie Fave and Calgary native Chad VanGaalen, has a new album. Well kind of… Going under the moniker, Black Mold he has collected a few years worth of his instrumental electronic output onto an album
The album combines a unique mix of electronic glitches and cut up organic sounds. Much like the more electronic experimental tracks on his previous album(which I have always personally wished there were more of, not that I don’t like his folkier work as well… I digress).
There feels like there’s a wide array of influences at work. Everything from 4am rave parties to an almost dubstep bass heavy sound. The album was composed with vintage analog gear mixed with more organic loops creating something that is at times driving while more sound-scapeish and sparse at others.
The album is fresh and did not disappoint me (a big CVG fan). It does not feel like a half ass’d side project put out to help saturate the market.
A big congrats to CVG on the album and for his recent Polaris nomination(as chosen by the country’s music critcs). Now if only Canada’s glitzy (read: shitzy) Juno awards could open their eyes to some of best under appreciated talent this country has and stop blowing kisses up Chad Kroeger / Nickelback’s already inflated ass. There’s no reason CVG shouldn’t be this county’s next Arcade Fire.
