The Interview Show: The Artist Life

The Artist Life are a pop-punk band from the burbs surrounding Toronto, Ontario. You might recognize their lead, Ian Blackwood. [Ian is the guy in the "Explosion" t-shirt.] He was on a short-lived tween-oriented Nickelodeon TV series called Instant Star (but, hey, it was produced by the people behind Degrassi).
After releasing a their debut EP, Living, on their own, The Artist Life signed to Underground Operations, Canada’s label for everything punk-ish–and the same label as MuchMusic superstars Protest the Hero. Their Underground Operations EP, Let’s Start A Riot, is available for sale all over the place. You can still download their debut, Living, from the band’s site for free! [Click here.]
Ian literally walked right off the stage and did this interview over the phone, so if he seems a bit shellshocked, it’s cuz he was exhausted, drenched in sweat, thinking about stowing his gear and guzzling beer.
Right now the guys are trying to get their latest single “Sleep So Sound” to chart on MuchMusic. Help them out and request the song (as well as watch the video) here.

Crazy On You

Heart Crazy On You 7

Classic rock used to be reserved for true aficionados, music enthusiasts, and adults (ie old people).

That’s different now.

Guitar. Hero.

Don’t get me wrong, I am ALL FOR people broadening their palates and learning about music they would have not enjoyed otherwise. Still, it floors me when I hear an 8 year old humming along to Heart.

Check out the amazing use of both acoustic and electric guitars in the hugely popular ‘Crazy On You’.

Heart – Crazy On You

Make sure to peep the video too… they look and sound sooo awesome!

Friday Fun Day

fast times

There’s something interesting about artists and bands who pick names that are so generic.

It’s like they want to sort of fly under the radar with a name you won’t remember when you want to Google them at 3 in the morning… and then suddenly everyone’s talking about them and no one can remember what they’re called.

“Oh yeah! Men. Rrrright.”

This remix by Pegase uses a lot of subtle elements from different genres and it’s nicely put together.

It’s your Friday song… now shake your hair, volume up! School’s out!

Song of the Summer?

I don’t know what I’d do if Chicago and maybe… Paris didn’t exist, I’d probably be building model airplanes or flying a kite right now

Death Of Auto-Tune

Jay-Z performs his new song “D.O.A.” at Summer Jam 2009.  First thing the beat reminded me of was “Takeover,” which Hova famously debuted at Summer Jam 2001, jumping-off his public rivalry with Nas.

Hova on Hot 97 talking about how this ain’t a diss song
