BON IVER SPIN OFF PROJECT OF WONDER!

Until Justin Vernon gets off his hairy ass and mails me that mix (seriously JuJu, figure out the postage so we can start falling in love already) I’ll have to content myself with (that means masturbate to) his side project, Volcano Choir. Fuck, the album’s not out til September 22. Looks like I’ll still be quietly strumming myself to The Wolves (Act 1 and 2) for a couple more months. Aroooo!

yup, that’s Tom Cruise under there–cover shot is totally an outtake from Eyes Wide Shut

Songs you can’t hear until September (or until it’s leaked this week):

01 Husks and Shells
02 Seeplymouth
03 Island, IS
04 Dote
05 And Gather
06 Mbira in the Morass
07 Cool Knowledge
08 Still

the interview show: Fallan Soldier

My inbox gets a lot of emails from bands who want interviews. Fallan Soldier is one request that immediately stuck out. Fallan Soldier is also the film and television actor Harris Allan. He most well known from his stint on Queer As Folk, playing street kid Hunter.

Like most of you, I was all, “The kid from Queer As Folk raps?! I gotta check this out.”

Fallan Soldier is not an actor’s vanity side project. Hip hop has always been a passion for Allan, like acting. Back in the day when his grandpa’s car got a flat tire, wee tot Harris started rapping about the whole situation.
Above The Call Of Duty is not anything like you’d expect, indie hip hop with mainstream aspirations. Music that could be a great opener for the Jonas Brothers or Kelly Clarson.
Harris is a local boy who fianced this whole thing himself  on his own label, so he would appreciate your support. The record is available at many independent record stores in Canada. A list of them can be found at his label’s website or his myspace.

Fallan Soldier “Fights”
The video for “Fight” launches on August 4th. Fallan Soldeir tells me, ‘It was “done on the price of lunch,”‘ but he is proud of the results.
Fallan Soldier ”60 In The Tank”
My favorite song on the album.

Purple Tape Pt. 2

I can’t wait for “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… Part 2.”  I have unreasonable expectations that this album will blow my mind.

Check out Raekwon at an all-night grocery store/deli after leaving the studio at 4am.  Halfway thru the video he reveals that Nas has yet to come through with a promised cameo on the album.  (You’ll remember that Nas was the only non-Wu member to appear on the original “Cuban Linx.”)

The Wikipedia article on “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx…” is awesome.  It confirms that the ellipsis in the title were added by Raekwon after the record company refused to publish the orginal title in full: “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Niggaz”.  The Cuban Linx he refers to is the popular style of chain at the time, and not a cocaine-supply connection as was originally thought.

Paul McCarthy

[googlevideo]http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3145996970602325024[/googlevideo]

Paul McCarthy is one of my fav artists.  He constructs Hollywoood-type sets, throws multi-day orgies on them (girls get naked, saw off fake limbs in pools of blood), or he’ll make automated sculptures, like the famous pig that squirms happily on its motorized base.  Back in the day he performed by himself, like in “Painter” (above).  He started out by making videos of himself alone in his studio naked lathering himself in Heinz ketchup.  It took him 30 years to get commercial representation: Hauser & Wirth is showing some of his new work in Zurich.
