Biggie Smalls

What….?
Imagine what their kids would look like… !
Picture Billy’s big white head except with a vagina for a mouth and two silicone implants attached to the top of the head like bizarre, child feeding bunny ears.
oink.

the interview show: circlesquare

CircleSquare is the music project fronted by former local boy Jeremy Shaw. Shaw has recently fled Vancouver’s insanely high cost of living for the artist-affordable haven of Berlin, like many other Canadian performers such as the mighty Peaches!
I did a piece for CBC Radio 3 (featuring Jeremy Shaw and Peaches) on Canadians who move. Listen to that here.
Shaw is also an accomplished visual/conceptual artist. Perhaps his most remembered piece is Jeremy Shaw: DMT, where he videotaped people on DMT and their ramblings. Great stuff.
My favourite CircleSquare track is “Fight Sounds Pt 1″ from his last EP. The song didn’t really get a push since his label, Output, went under before the EP even came out. Now CircleSquare are on Ghostly, the same label as Matthew Dear, and they have a new record, Songs About Dancing and Drugs, you can preview the new record here.
I recorded this interview twice. The first time, I got Jeremy to talk in depth about how he sees the link between drugs and music. That interview sadly was lost. Luckily, I got him to talk a little bit about it again.
CircleSquare on the interview show
It is so great to see a local guy get remixed by a world-class talent like Juan. I posted the radio edit here, but the full remix is the real shit.
CircleSquare “Hey You Guys” (The Juan Maclean remix Radio Edit)
And here is a special hour-long mix Jeremy has made for you. (Warning: this mix is slow to start, so give it time for the sound to come up.)
CircleSquare’s Super Late Night Music For People In The Dark
Check him out this summer across Europe. Oi! When do we get some North American dates?

Long Weekend with South Rakkas Crew

Coming this Thursday, a highly recommended Winnie favourite will be rolling through Vancouver.
South Rakkas Crew representing Mad Decent will be doing it up HUGE to get the long weekend started.
The DJ lineup for this event is nuts, with a bunch of local superstars plus those nerdy Winnie Cooper DJs.
We can’t wait… come through, get loose!
Check the Facebook event page for details.
Peep this SRC mixtape to get an idea of how awesome MEGA MEGA will be on April 9.

Babe Rainbow

What’s better than the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow…?-A Babe Rainbow.
Babe Rainbow is a new project by Cameron Reed who puts together the Victory Square Block Party and The Music Waste Festival here in Vancouver.

Cory Arcangel is a computer programmer who has been embraced by the art world and we’re all happier for it. His claim to fame was doctoring a Nintendo “Super Mario Bros.” game cartridge and erasing everything but the clouds. He has since gone on to create large scale prints of Photoshop CS2 colour gradients and a note-by-note reconstruction of Bach’s Goldberg Variation No. 1 using YouTube videos of random people performing it. Yep, each note is represented by a split-second clip of video. His website is a lot of fun to browse thru too.

South Rakkas Crew – Mad Again (Scott Cooper Boot)
Piper Davis is from Vancouver, she’s also super rad. She has a song of the month club that if you sniff around the internet right, you might be able to find
The original version of this is my jam right now. Don’t you love it when you don’t know the words to a song but you sing it all day anyways?? GOSH
The XX – Teardrops (Cover Womack and Womack)
This song would be more appropriate on Valentines day, but just as my excuse went to my girlfriend for not having a gift… Everyday is Valentines day!!!! this is a joke. I would never do that.
Love not hate. Love love love lovelove.
Orange Juice – L.O.V.E. (Love)
Don’t beat people up.
Strange Boys – Heard You Wanna Beat Me Up
This song makes me think of love making. Did I say that out loud? I meant, suuuuuuuuuushi.
Chic – I Want Your Love (Todd Terje Edit)
