Hola Amigos

muertes

I just got back from Mexico. I saw humpback whales, manta rays, baby sea turtles and lots of beer.

Some savage bird pecked at my banana (really though… I brought a banana to the beach).

As a souvenir I brought back five vicious bug bites and lots of things with skulls and skeletons. My ‘Dia de los Muertos’ obsession is bordering on creepy…

Shouts to Vicente!

Aaaannnnd… 8 random thoughts on the Grammy’s:

1. Yawn. Another typical Grammy show where they try to combine the celebration of boring wholesome family pop and the honoring of legends. There were some interesting moments… like when I ate pasta while watching it. So yummy.

2. Chris Brown and Rihanna did not show: they must have a good excuse. Oh, assault? Woops.

3. M.I.A. performing on her due date: nicely done.

4. Intermittent smatters of booing for award winners: classy. That was almost as interesting as my linguine.

5. Yawwwwwn.

6. Jonas Bros: did you find your fists clenching involuntarily too?

7. Katy Perry: LOL! Oh man, hearing her live performance is like getting salmonella. I love the mute button.

8. Radiohead: bloody brilliant.

I agreed with most of your assessments, but really felt that Radiohead jumped the shark. I thought their performance was over produced with the USC Marching Band and made absolutely no sense, unless it was supposed to be Dada-esque, and if that’s the case, thought it was undercooked.

@ Ryan: that’s an interesting way of looking at it… you’ve certainly got a point in that it was dramatic and a bit random. I guess for me (ignoring the visual aspect of the production), I loved the effect that dozens of drums had on the song. It was large, it was grand, it was great to hear. I’m a sucker for drums.

Now seeing U2 perform… THAT was hard to watch, eyeliner and all.

I didn’t get to see the performance and was surprised Thom and Jonny played the grammy’s especially after this quote from Jonny:

“Everything I know about pop culture I know from ‘The Simpsons,’ and they say the Grammys aren’t very good.”

    See (http://blog.mlive.com/citpat-pluggedin/2009/02/quote_of_the_day_best_grammys.html)

Although I did catch a glance of Coldplay play and I thought they looked like a bunch of pretentious *****, but then I’m allowed to say that cos I’m British.

    p.s Like the meheekoo tunes
