ELECTRONIC MALE

Bjork posted an interesting memo on her website calling out one journalist in particular for not properly giving her the writing credits on the 2001 album Vespertine. Instead the magazine journalist gave credit to Valgeir Sigur∂sson (a man).
She makes parallels to M.I.A.’s lashing of the media when Diplo was credited with being the mastermind behind Arular and Kala.
A lot of interesting debates have spawned (again) with the conversations centering around the misconceptions that females “cannot program, arrange, produce, edit or write electronic music”.
Is it just that mainstream media have a need to attribute successful albums to a single producer who happen to be male? Or is this misconception in fact prevalent? What do you think?
Sugarcubes - Birthday (Justin Robertson Remix)
Bjork - It’s In Our Hands (Soft Pink Truth Mix)
And in other news…. this is sooooo not cool.

It’s business baby… by citing an established artist with a loyal fanbase (Diplo) the newspaper is making it easier for everybody involved to BY THE RECORD. Newspapers are glorified department store catalogues. Their sole purpose is to SELL SHIT by the people who PAY THEM.
Bjork is just keeping her name in the news as this is GOOD BUSINESS. I’m not hatin’, just ‘xplainin’.
lovin the first track. really nice. ;) thx.

“I have a recurrent dream
Every time I feel a hoarseness
I swallow warm glowing lights
My mother and son baked for me”

I think the issue goes beyond just a male / female / electronic thing.
I think as long as there’s people with egos (and big successful musician sized ones) and collaborations between them, one side of the party will feel jipped when the other side gets credited as being responsible for the work produced.
Look at groups like the Beatles, The Police and Nirvana ect There’s been big debates between groups such as those as to who’s the big talent behind the work.
When you look at the solo work of Lennon & McCartney outside of the Beatles, Stings solo work and contributing band members such as Dave Grohl, you can see that it’s really the sum of both (all) parts and not just one individual thats responsible for the groups music.
Kurt Cobain wrote Hole’s Live Thru This!
I love Bjork and would happily run away to Winnipeg with her
