Mr Chad VanGaalen

A few years ago, a friend tipped me off on a Chad VanGaalen show he told me to go to. While I must say I wasn’t blown away by the show -at which there were maybe a handful of people -there was something going on that made me buy his “Infiniheart” cd.
The album blew me away. I was stoked to have discovered this gem of an artist from Calgary who nobody knew of that had this distinctive homemade sound, as if someone had slaved away for hours in a damp basement with a 4 track recorder, a slew of homemade instruments and a voice, which was, dare I say, even more haunting than Winnipeg’s Neil Young.
Upon being discovered by Sub Pop Records, they re-released “Infiniheart” and the subsequent ”Skelliconnectio” in 2006. Chad is now on most indie kids radar. For those of you who know him, here’s a treat from his newly announced 3rd album, Soft Airplane and for those of you who don’t, listen up!!
Flemish Eye Records releases Soft Airplane Sept 9th. Look for CVG touring Canada, Oct 2nd-4th in Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto and Oct 9th & 10th in Vancouver and Victoria. He’ll be touring in Europe in November. More info here.

I know what you’re saying about him live. His last show at Richards was ok but he kept banging on about a pube getting stuck on his CD. I think he was smacked – I know I was
